like the title says, I am in the process of deciding what color I want to paint my project 98 Honda Civic.

I need a body shop that does immaculate work. I want the finished product to be flawless. I have called/visted 10+ body shows around my area, and all have either not met my expectations or laughed at me and thought it was funny that I spent all of this time prepping a Honda Civic. I just smile and walk out. I do not want to deal with a painter who wants to question why I want my honda to be flawless when complete.

The car is a 98 dx hatch

STRIPPED to bare shell, no dash no glass, any moldings or anything. I currently have the doors, fenders, bumpers, literally everything off the car.

entire car is wet sanded with 1000 grit inside and out, (everywhere there was paint) I had PDR remove the few dents the car had, I still have a afew maybe 2 or 3 tiny dings barely visible to the naked eye.

No rust, it was a cali car and has only 50k on the body.

I want the car painted inside out, I am leaning towards going with a HOK (house of kolors paint) either candy brandy or good old candy apple red.

Like I said I want the final product to be flawless, I am so meticulous it annoys me at times, I will go out of my way to find something wrong with an object.

As far as price goes, I am willing to pay VERY WELL as long as the work that is being done is flawless. I do not expect the paint job to be cheap by any means.

I just want nothing but quality and I am willing to pay for it.

Body shop can be anywhere in the mid-west

i've heard and seen great things from Getz's auto body in hampshire IL. prolly be a bit of a drive but their work is fantastic. i've done clear bra work for them several times in the past and am always blown away by their work and their projects out in their shop

 

I will look into them, what kind of project cars are they painting?

I want to find a place that is going to enjoy spraying the car and seeing the finished product, someone who takes great pride in their work.

not sure what kind of paint they spray, i've seen some old school very custom cars in their shop. they always seem to be excited to work on whatever they're working on. i looked into having them paint my EF a year back or so and they liked the ideas of what i had and what i wanted, it just never came to be cuz the EF is still being worked on.

I was in the same boat as you last summer. but thankfully a guy on this forum came through. his screen name is AMTHEICEMAN.

he's located in Indinapolis, IN, so for me it was a 3 hour trip just to get to his shop. he did all my prepwork. i had no rust either, but there were a lot of imperfections and dings all over the body. this guy knows what he's doing and has been featured in various import magazines. he works at a body repair shop, but does the work afterhours or when he's not busy, so you wont have to worry about someone working on your car inside their home garage. everything he does is very very professional, and he even sent me updates on my ride so i have a progress photo album.

if you're interested, PM him, he's in my sig. he can show you his albums of cars he's worked on before. he even posted a hatch he converted to RHD a few months back.

 

This guy does AMAZING work.

 

Sucks *** to have half *** painters.. Man you get charged alot of money and then in the finished product it looks like ***.. I have a local place paint my audi and they did ok work charged me 200 for bumper and 200 for fender.. I probably got ripped off but oh well he got it done in few days.. We need more painters honda-tech.. Go to school...

 

autowerks of northbrook. im a mechanic there we just finished up a old porsche the guy was so **** he had us paint and smooth the inside of his fenders and he checked to make sure we buffed out all the dirt nibs we painted did like 3 coats of clear then sanded smooth then 2 coats and sanded smooth then 3 more coats and sanded smooth again, it was the deepest blue i have ever seen. we have a car in our show room now its a pontiac grand prix we painted like 2 years you can check out the paint quality on.

the porsche guy also had us Paint the inside of his car engine bay trunk all of it and he had a roll cage he wanted to be yellow instead of blue, we also buffed the inside of the car. we had one other civic guy come through i think he had an ek we painted it pearl white inside and out, and i welded in a cage

 

How much do you guys charge for a paint job?

I am in the same boat looking for a bit rust repair and ding repair but not full paint job, if you find someone good RTboy let us know

honestly it depends so much on what you want done i dont want to give you a price and be way off, just come in and ask for a quote. I do know that from what i hear, people say we are on the high side but we will give you a killer paint job and we are pretty good at warranting imperfections even if you find them later.

 

it cost 5k to get ur car painted with us driving it in complete and driving off, u did a lot of your own work so it will be way cheaper.

will do Autowerks sounds like they really know whats up. The manager was talking about doing 10 coats of clear on a viper they recently did. He was saying that he would do around 6 coats on my civic.

I want to take my car there for sure because it sounds like a very nice establishment, that does flawless work. Which is what I want.

It pretty much comes down to price I am willing to pay but I honestly cannot even estimate the cost of what I want done.

no idea I am thinking it will be pricey. I have come to find out you get what you pay for when it comes to paint.

He was saying they would spend a whole week if not more on buffing.

6 coats of clear is a lott of clear haha it will be like Kandy glass

I expect the price to be high I just hope it is not outrageously high lol.
