Default New Engine Issues

Ok long story short I just swapped a b18a motor in my 95 gsr (vtec motor needs a rebuild : ( ) and wouldnt you kno it something is wrong. Im pretty sure the timing is off, but not sure why. What happens is when I start the car it idles for about 2 or 3 seconds and then dies. If I try and rev it a little it will hold and then sputter and die. These symptoms happened to me in the past when I had a timing belt that was slipping. Everything on the motor is lined up at TDC, the cam gears, the crank and I also set the valve lash. Is it possible the dizzy is bad? Spark is good, the plugs are good, injectors are also good. The b18a was completely rebuilt all new valvetrain new pistons etc. If anyone has some input or has had a similar problem please shoot me some ideas. Thanks

You could check the ignition timing to see if the dizzy is timing correctly. Are you absolutely sure the cams and crank timings are right?

Thankd for the reply, but mechanically the motor is definately set at TDC, the cams and crank. I set the adjustment on the dizzy to neutral. The motor runs perfect for 2 or 3 seconds and then sputters and dies. Im almost positive it is something electrical, but am not sure what faulty sensor would cause this. My oil pressure sensor may be faulty, but I dont think that would have any effect or would it(the oil light doesnt come on)?? The ecu is a p72 chipped with crome, I recently had it reprogrammed to run a P75 map maybe the ecu is faulty somehow. At this point im kind of stuck any more input would be greatly appreciated

Anybody? No ideas??? My buddy is hopefully going to bring his laptop over tonight and connect to my ecu to see if or what code it is throwing.

ok.. you need to check your coil pack and igniter to make sure that is still functional.. ALWAYS check the whole spark system first..

next, check for loose/missing/broken vac lines... replace if you find any..

after that, if its still not working, do a compression test to make sure that the head is still good.. dont just assume.. just check it.. it takes less than 10 mins to do a compression check...

let us know what you find

Ok thanks for the advice, ive checked everything and no problems, except I dont have a compression gauge so I didnt test that. I also found out that if the map and tps sensors are unplugged the motor idles perfectly which leads me to believe that im having a problem with the map or tps sensor. I have a knock off intake manifold and im thinking that the TB does not fit the intake manifold perfectly and therefore blocking the flow to the map sensor. Im going to test this theory out and go from there.

Swap dizzy w/ a known good one. Your Cam shaft positioning sensor may be failing.

It cant be the dizzy or anything mechanical because when the map and TPS are unplugged the motor idles fine. Im heading back to school this weekend so Il try and come home next weekend and check for codes. Also ive herd that when the map and TPS are unplugged the ecu goes into limp mode and runs off of pre set values whereas with the tps and map sensors plugged in the ecu makes adjustments to fuel based on the information sent from the sensors. Can someone verify this?
