Default Smog tech playing bullshit with me?

The smog tech said I failed visual inspection because those red hoses aren't PVC hoses. So first, I need to know what and where those hoses go to (I think the first one is the Positive Cam Ventilation hose which goes from the Valve cover into the Intake. Now the second hose I do not know what it is for.
I need to replace these hoses so I want to know where I can find some replacement hoses. I checked out Ace Hardware but I wasn't absolutely positive that they were the appropriate hoses.

that other hose is for your iacv. i don't see why they have to be pvc hoses tho but since you're in cali i assume he's right. cali's got some weird freaking laws.

my suggestion is go to an auto parts store and ask if they have replacement hoses made out of pvc. altho i believe that the lower hose needs to be a heater hose since coolants going thru it.

Just measure the hose diameters, go to autozone and pick up some of each, cut them to the right length, install them, and call it a day.

went to napa auto parts and found out one is a vacuum hose (PCV valve) and the other is actually a coolant line which I suppose to warm up the intake or something. I replaced both hoses today and hopefully the douche at the smog center doesn't try any bullshit with me. I'm tempted to get the car pre-tested at the smog place before doing the actual smog test cause I'm worried about blemishing the smog record of this vehicle which has been immaculate thusfar.

If I recall correctly, it warms the throttle plate to keep it from freezing.

Regardless, go to a parts store, all of them carry pcv hose.

Still a pretty douche move to fail you because of that.

Good luck!

Well given those hoses are not SMOG certified, you will need to get the special emissions hose. I have failed many of cars due to it, given I never know if its a BAR car or not. But unfortunately thats the regulation, and you wonder why they charge a lot for these hoses at the dealer.

well actually there is no such thing as smog certified hoses. I have my Smog license and have worked at a gold shield station. The thing is that there is supposed to be a black pipe that has two pipes next to each other. one goes from the valve cover to the intake while the other pipe that is connected side by side is for coolant to pass through. that smaller red hose you have, it goes from the intake manifold through the pipe and then to your IACV. that would be why he failed you and really that kinda chicken ****. i would take it somewhere else. thats something that not too many people would fail you for.

Darktuner,

So your telling me you have passed cars with heater hoses or just black hoses on the Breather tubes? If so then I hope a BAR car does not go into your shop. The black pipe you pointed out is suppose to be SMOG approved, that why they sell the SMOG / EVAP hose. This was one of the questions on your initial SMOG license test.

well if thats the case can you please point out to me where that law is? the blac tube that im talking about is a factory item, im sure that its legal and so you know the Emission label on hoses is just the spec of the hose what is will withstand not what it can be used for. you can use fuel line if you want for an evap hose.
Page 53 of my California BAR Smog handbook states:
2.4.4 Fuel Evap system Visual Inspection.
Check that the evap system is present, complete and properly installed.
Check for the presence of the vapor storage canister when required.

Verify that required hoses, solenoids, etc., are present, properly connected and have no visual defects.

Check for proper type of fuel cap.

Check any non-OEM or auxiliary fuel tanks for proper connections and the required number of evap canisters. Non-approved fuel tanks must be brought into compliance with any required fillpipe restrictors and or evap controls before a certificate can be issued.

thats all under the visual inspection for the evap system. connected and there not that there "Smog certified" just there. as long as it works BAR is happy. hence the EVAP test on pre OBD2 vehicles. so if what you say is true i would like the see the published proof.

Well...seeing as North Dakota has NO emissions laws, lets just say i'd have a pretty awful time meeting with an officer. I dont know if cars registered out of state are subject to CA law while within the borders, but i'm looking at moving to Vegas (and skirting the emissions laws thanks to my car running E85) and i would rather not get stopped in CA and sited.
