Default More Catalytic Convert Questions

My topics tend to get locked and people tell me to just google it.

I have a very simple question.

If I want to remove my cat in an 01 Civic EX, what do I need to do to pass emissions, not throw codes and not lose gas mileage?

From what I understand I cant just plug the senor in a test pipe, it wont read right, I cant trick the sensor because it wont regulate the fuel correctly and replacing the ECU to a JDM one might not pass emissions, since that type of thing can come up during a test.

Has anyone successfully removed a cat and didn't have trouble?

I am currently running my car without a cat and have no engine lights on. but if you dont want any engine check light you will need to get and 02 sensor defouler. its simple to make. But you still wont pass smog. you just wont have any engine lights on.

OBII is throwing me a 0420 code. I might need a new cat. I do NOT want to spend $400 on a new one and those $50 cats, i dont trust them

I've heard people tell me that they didnt have trouble with a cheap $50 can and others tell me that they just dont work and still throw bad codes.

so that puts me in the middle ground for a a $300-500 cat but I aint paying those prices.

You might as well give it to him then, since he'll likely have to pay someone to modify his exhaust in order for that header to work.
