Default Dajjiban

People have been asking what this is in the "2010 trends" thread, so I thought I'd make an appearance thread about it. I suppose it's like any other wacky JDM style (i.e. shakotan, yanky, vanning-zoku, Dekotora, etc), but I think this one is ****.

I first stumbled across this back in July on the Japanese RS Watanabe website in the "owner car" section.

It's been referred to as "Youga Base" style, "Hentai Vans", and a few other things, but apparently they just refer to their cars as "Dajjibans", or Dodge Vans. The Katakana to search for is "ダッジバン".

If anyone finds any new blogs, sites, or images related to the Dajjiban thing, post them in here. I want moar.

Here's my blog post about it from back in July 2009:

http://sixsylinder.blogspot.com/2009/07/loosen-up.html

The Basics:
-Dodge Vans (I've yet to see anything else, but maybe they don't get other American vans over there)
-Lowering
-Deep dish low-offset wheels (often 6-lug RS Wats, but I've seen Diamonds and others)
-White lettered tires
-minimalist interiors (CF, racing wheels, not typical van stuff, lots of period American stickers, very eclectic)
-V8 performance mods

They appear to be actually tracking these vans, which is absurd, but ****ing rad.

Here's the "Youga Base" blog site:

http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/r_q_collectibles

Some of the images I've found (I've saved tons):

Trackday at Ebisu Circuit. Obviously didn't work out so well for everyone, lol.

Is this normal engine placement? Really this far back? I guess the hoods are so short..

Interiors

Suspension shots: (I wonder if it's the same "swift" that makes bike shocks)

The ubiquitous Youga Base tag:

I want this shirt so bad:

Again, people are probably going to hate this to death, but I thought it was something new. So JDM it's USDM, lol.

Yes thats the engine placement and I remember hearing that Chevy Astro mini-vans were very popular in Japan too.

LOL @ full size vans running a track day.

"Polished Turd" seems to come to mind but you know what if this becomes popular I'll get on board. First vehicle I drove was my parents 89 Astro van. Lovednailing HS chics in that thing....Ahhh the good old days.

I think it's kinda cool. However, I don't see this turning into the next big thing here. I know the Japanese are gaga over Astro vans, too, and that "vanning" never really died over there.

Don't get me wrong—I totally dig custom vans and such, but I don't see this being a trend here. My buddy in high school had a '74 Dodge Tradesman 200. It had a 360, **** carpet from floor to ceiling, a wrap-around bench seat in the rear, a porthole window, spare tire on the back, running boards, spoiler, and a mural on the side. It was a party wagon for sure.

I don't really see it being a trend here either, I think people here will stick with Odysseys and Previas and whatnot, but I still like these.

The whole schtick behind the idea, that it's uniquely American, loses some of it's neat-ness when it's done in.....America. If you read the blogs, all these guys collect period US gas station stickers and Burger King drive-thru mugs from the '70's and all sorts of other ****. The fascination obviously wouldn't work here.

Sort of like Dekotora. I think Dekotora are killer, but it'd be totally illegal and infeasibly expensive in the states.

A few more that I had lying around.

Precious cargo:

Funny perv references/Engrish:

Olive drab makes it look like a transport vehicle from "08th MS Team" or something.

I have to look and see if the USDM vans have these same tails. Looks different for some reason.

Swift only makes the springs, but yes it's the same high-end company.

I need to investigate what off-the-shelf suspension stuff is available in the US that would allow for Dajjiban slammage. If I can nail that down, I'm halfway tempted to do it. It'd be a good Ruckus transport.

Anyway, MOAR DAJJIBAN!

Flares! He doesn't have the stance/fitment for it though. Needs Wats.

More interiors:

This head unit is cool. Old Nakamichi product maybe?

Really liked this one:

That's a lot of rape vans:

Yeah, I'm not sure how that works. Obviously, they all appear to be left-hand drive.

I know these are expensive to buy and own in Japan, and the taxes on them are absurd.

I'm seeing the picture string from my first post pop up on other boards, lol.
