Default Determing Where Oil Is Leaking...

1994 Honda Civic JDM B16A swap...

Small oil leak seems to be coming from the head gasket. I'd like to clean off the oil and then keep a better eye on things. What is the best method to clean this off with?

I've heard using Brakeleen...? I've heard spray it on, let it go and wipe to clean..?

I use simple green and then just hose it off, high pressure workx best on a warm engine.

Brake Cleaner will work fine(don't let it overspray on painted services you don't want messed up). But civic_r87111 method would work also.

Most likely its not the HeadGasket. Its probably one or a mixture of the following seals/gaskets causing oil to run down the engine making it look to you like a head gasket is leaking.

-Valve Cover Gasket
-Distributor O-Ring
-VTEC Spool Gasket(Of course, only for engines equipped with VTEC)
-Cam Seal(s) behind Cam Gears
-Head Plug on Passenger side of Exhaust Cam(DOHC Engine Only)

One, several, or all of these is most likely the culprit.

I just installed a new Head Plug and Distributor O-Ring in my LS engine a couple hours ago today.

Post a picture of the location where you think the oil may be leaking from. The head gasket would be an uncommon source of an external oil leak.
