New Accord: EX's extra 13 hp worth it?
13hp is 13hp, but does the 13 addtional horsepower increases its performance. How much? Probably not much since the EX trim adds some weight. Sunroof, 8 way power, amplifier/sub, leather to name a few.
Agree. The extra power only helps with acceleration, and even that is probably a wash with the added girth. Everything else, braking, cornering, transitions, is a loss because of the weight. I would say no from a performance standpoint. Honda seems to have been going in the wrong direction with this for a long time and it seems they agree. Buzz is that the next Civic will be lighter, thank god. If you can hold out for a couple of years, maybe the Accord will head in that direction as well. Mazda seems to have their head in the right place as far as fun-factor in their lineup, perhaps give them a look.
The Accord plays a different game. Being full size (USDM model) may perhaps not be enough. Last I check, Americans are not getting smaller.
I don't have graphs but if you look at again were the 13hp comes in 7000 on EX and LX max hp is 6500 ,it looks like they needed to raise rev lines on EX to squeeze the 13hp out .
IMO if you drive below 6k rpm you never see any extra hp from EX , so everyday driving you won't see anything different .
