The engine the car started with doesn't have much power. So in third, where it has a shorter ratio, it has the mechanical advantage to get the car over that speed.

It's probably a tired engine? Give a service and see how that goes.

There is something wrong but we would need more info to diagnose the problem. In that configuration, the car would take longer to get to and above 75 but nonetheless, it would get there.

that's wierd. my car went over 75 in both of those gears with my si trans. is his timing still dead on? is the trans making any noise? is the clutch slipping at all?

mine went through a quart of oil a week if not more, burning it all, and still went 90 +...

Check the timing, do a service (new plugs, oil, air filter, oil and fuel filters). I'm sure it will run better.

I'd like to ad to replace the cap and rotor, costs maybe 20-30 bux and is worth it imo.

has your friend done ANY mods to his b1? my guess is that like some are saying it may be tired out. i could see it struggling if it were starved for air or if the cat was partially plugged. also, has he removed the secondary butterfly, or upgraded the cam at all? from what i hear those things help... i mean, i can see a visual difference in an si cam vs. the stock b1 cam lobes...

Either tired motor, or it's a DX tranny and not actually an Si...

IMO i think its because the 4 speed tranny has shorter gears and the 5 speed has longer gears needing more power. I have a 4 speed as well so thats just my guess.
