I was cruising down the highway yesterday and all of the sudden my car lost power. I got it over to the side and stopped it, and now it won't start. I got it to catch a few times by pumping the gas, but it dies again almost immediately after. A friend of mine pulled off the airbox cover and turned it over, and it sent smoke out of the airbox. When it turns over it makes this hollow choking noise.

 

unless its has carbs pumping the gas will do nothing your car is most likely fuel injected so no fuel is delivered unles fuel pump is on. For smoke to come out the air box could only happen if your intake valve are allowing smoke to come out the opposite way maybe your intake valve are not sealing right. I never heard of such a problem I heard of smoke comming out of the exhaust it sounds bad. Remember your engine is trying to suck air in not blow it out from the air box unless something bad really happen to your engine. Check the obvious and read the spark plugs yes I said read pull them out and see what it has on them oil, fuel etc. gl.

weired hollow noise is comming from the intake when you take the filter off.

 

Maybe the timing belt? That's where I would start looking first.

 

Definitely check the timing. Probably skipped a couple of teeth. Perform a leak down test to rule out bent valves.

 

Dude same thing happened to me the noise part will check the timing for sure

 

Is there a fat hole in your block under the Ex manifold?......

I am only saying because a few weeks ago something funny happend to my friends crx. He was "cruising" along and lost power car started making buuooign noises. He called me to check it out and there was like 4 kids looking up and down trying to fix it. i found it had a hole in the block!

That or timing is off.

 

It didn't make any obscene noises when it lost power. I was going 70mph down the highway and it just stopped running. Everyone keeps telling me to check the timing. I'll have a look at it when I can and post any updates.
