Given that the Cannonball Run was highly illegal, I don't think you'll find much specific information without a bit of digging. This was the only thing I could find on a quick search: http://www.autoblog.com/2006/04/28/c...s-this-summer/

Do also note the outrageous entry fee, which is consistent with years past. If you are seriously interested, you might want to check out the Gumball 3000 Rally, which is run in a similar format. The link should be here: http://www.gumball3000.com/RALLY but I can't access it at work. Again, highly illegal, and highly expensive.

Yep, they don't mess around. Its really for silly rich people, IMO. One Lap of America is INFINITELY cooler, entirely legit, and at least less expensive (though still not cheap).

No, One Lap is performed on closed race tracks. The stipulation being that you have to drive the car to and from each track (rather than trailer it, also requiring street legality). There are more rules involved with that, but I'm not up to date on them. Basically, you take two weeks or whatever, hit up 7 different race tracks (or however many there are), and the person who does best overall is the winner.

Silver States Challenge is closed public road high speed stuff.

Actually, One Lap has very few rules other than some safety items. Even the classing is pretty wide open. Its basically a week's worth of driving to a different track (or two) each day, and then a time trial on that track (as if it were a public road...but its not). Many of the tracks will have a morning and afternoon session before moving on. This year's even is centered mostly around the center and NE areas of the country.

I'm in for this year.

I remember there being rules about the number of tires you can use and getting to and from each event. Beyond that, I don't know of any.

Basically, one set of tires for the whole deal. You can carry a spare (two, if your front and rear are different size), but you can only use the spare for road hazard issues (e.g. flat, bent wheel, etc). No replacement for tires worn due to excessive camber/toe or whatever.

normally for my cannonball run i like to start about a foot from the back of the diving board. it gives me the proper run up to get in a good crow hop for maximum spring.

The original Cannonball Run was an illegal street race that was usually run from the Red Ball garage in Manhattan NY to the Portofino Inn in Redondo Beach CA. The prefered route covering 2863 miles. The fastest time was 27 hours and 44 minutes, set by Brock Yates (Car and Driver)and Phil Hill (F1 World Champion) in a 1971 Ferrari Daytona Coupe.
