Is it worth bring an ITR restore back to OEM?
I saw a craigslist ads in Baton Rouge, LA for a Yellow Acura Integra Type R for sale at $6500.00. They said it has a reconstructed title and have no seat, and need a new paint job.
Is this car worth buying and restoring it to OEM condition???
Reconstructed title, is this another way of saying it's a salvage car with major repairs done to it??
Thanks ahead for any info!!

I'd make sure it has the original engine, tranny, all other interior, ITR suspension, etc. It doesn't look like it has the original wheels, but might have the suspension from the pic. He also doesn't mention miles or why it was given the title in the first place. You might run a carfax on it. It really depends on how complete it is. After $6,500 for a salvage title car, plus a handful of replacement parts you could buy a good running clean titled R.
It's usually cheaper just to buy a well taken care of R.
A good clean, all original PY ITR with higher miles and a clean title would cost around $13000
$6500 + a GOOD paint job + parts, etc is going to cost more than $13000
Unless you are doing this as a hobby and enjoy restoring cars and can put in the labor, it's not worth it.

Bring heR back! dont just buy one, you will be much happier when you look at the car and drive it. anybody can drop cash on a R but knowing that you brought her back is worth more then money.hmmmmm
two front itr seats = $~700
itr wheels= $ 800
new paint = $ 2000

IMO it's always worth it to bring an ITR back to OEM spec. May cost more then just buying a clean, stock one, but it's worth the extra money knowing you brought back one that would have been gone for good, and you might even appreciate the car more when it's finished.
Thanks everyone for the good info....
I emailed the owner and he said it has the orginal engine and trans.
The car has everything orginal execept for the missing wheels and front itr seats. The car does have 135,000 mile on it.

that's a no brainer, original motor/trans, 5 lug, etc..just check the carfax and go for it.
I could have bought a pretty damn mint ITR for what i have into mine already, but i wouldn't have it any other way.

I'd go lower than 6500 with these 2 on the market.

I'd see if he will come down a little. Do we know if it needs body work? That isn't a good picture which makes me a little suspicious.

6500 seems like a pretty good deal but youd have to see it in person

Lmao... I'd have to see both cars too... Seems like a better deal than the craigslist ones because the cars are complete and i'm sure if the deal is legit, they'll come down a few dollars.
Went and take a close look at the car today and this is what i see as potential problems::
1. A copy of the car's carfax show that he is the fourth owner
2. The car has been in two minor accident in the early 2002
3. The car had a minor fire in the trunk that burned the trunk mat but I can't see any other damages from the fire.
4. In 2005, the car had moderate damages from a car accident in the rear. It was totaled out by insurance. The car was brought back by a bodyshop whom did repair and put it back on the road with a "reconstructed title".
The owner stated that the third owner who did the repair, replaced the back bumper and repaired the two rear quarter panel then repainted the car.
The only things I see wrong is there are a few small paint bubbling by the Type R sticker on each side. probably from not cleaning the surface too good when repainted..
Everything else is still original (missing seats and wheels). Motor and transmission, I see no problem. Drive good no vibration or anything... But I didn't get to go fast either cuz i was seating on a block. The car still had the orginal center console badge too. I think it was something like 00-045X
he is willing to take $6000 for the car.
I thinking about get it... and striping the car down to nothing and repainted it correctly then installing everything back in. I'm thinking a good body shop would charge about $2500 for a good paint job.
What do you all think?????? It least, by doing this way, I know what I have... Let face it, most of these ITR out there, have been in some sort of accident (minor or not) you can still get a clean title.... Cars have salvage title is a result of cost of repairs become more than the car is worth it self ...

i wouldn't be too worried about 4 owners, and instead of a $2500 paint job just $50 paint job that! haha...
above all it's still a dope *** itr!

Good to hear it is as complete as it really is. A good buy if someone wants to just buy a set of seats and have a complete, driveable ITR! Then just buy wheels and it will look just fine!
