Default B18c1 question

Hiya folks

New to this site from over in the UK, wonder if anybody can help me out

I've got a B18c1 from an integra Si (GSR) ready to drop into my 96 EK civic, i understand that the C1 has a dual runner intake manifold and this kinda strangles the engine to a certain extent..

What i need to know is how easy/complicated it would be to swap it over for a single runner, like the Skunk2 IM??

Would i have any problems with the P72 management? or with the cams?

Cheers

Lee

I changed my GSR from the dual runner to a single Edelbrock Performer X. The change would be similar for a Skunk2 Pro. Actually it is easier, the Skunk2 doesn't relocate the T/B as much at the Performer X.

GSR Intake System Upgrade

You will need a programable ECU to get the most out of this change. What cams are you currently running?

the oem gsr IM is perfectly fine for a stock engine and does not "choke" the engine. the dual runners are meant to provide better low end response while opening at higher rpm to allow better flow (think vtec for your IM ) an aftermarket IM can improve performance but it wouldnt be the first thing that I would change.

a programmable ecu would be best but you could get it close with a vafc2. the a/f is going to be off a bit when you change the im. timing also could be improved which is why the custom ecu is nice. the dual runner gsr manifold is SUPPOSE to increase low end torque even though it never seems to. type r's for example out power a gsr everywhere. the single runner manifold is a performance increase and will make your life wiring the motor easier; you just really should address the ecu map. in fact a p73 map with a fuel pressure regulator backed off a tad would be really close. you could use a wideband with the FPR to get it nearly spot on

yes.. you can easily change the IM on that..

and the stock one is for sure good for the stock motor.. it really does give you more usable power downstairs..

But for sure, you will need the tune to get the most out of it.. def replace that bitch.. lol

You can plug the IAB hose to leave the IM secondaries always on and the low end loss is detectable on butt dyno. Like the others have said, you might as well leave the IM alone for now because for the $$$ other mods will do more for you.

there's a lot of other things that separate a type r from a gs-r besides the IM

He means that a bolt on ITR IM outperforms the GS-R IM throughout the powerband on a B18C1.

Would you get a check engine light on for opting in a single runner?

I don't believe so. It's easy to do -- you take the hose off the top of the IAB and plug it with a screw.

When I changed from the GSR I/M to the Performer X this never came up. I expected this to be an issue, but it wasn't. My tuner disabled the IAB in the S300, anyways.
