Default Help, I have a question

I recently swapped a JDM B16 with a B16 LSD transmission. I was wondering if it was normal for me to be going 50 miles an hour in 5th gear, and the RPM's are at about 3 grand? Also it seems to idle different, for example, one time it will idle at 1500 and the next it could be at 1900. Is this normal as well?

Please, no rude comments, I really need help. Thanks.

First of all, make your title relavent to the issue you're having. Like, it could be "B16 erratic idle, and high idle". Your's has nothing to do with your problem.

RPMs sound a little high, but OEM tachs aren't always accurate. The B16 tranny is geared really low though, don't be too concerned, it was made to be revved out. If you don't like it, swap an LS 5th gear in.
The idle problem, is this when the engine is cold, like first thing in the morning? Maybe it's the IACV?

The title doesn't matter, I have a question, so the title is I have a question. That's nothing to even worry about.

Back on topic.. I didn't know you could swap an LS 5th gear in. And it's about the same temperature most of the day here in Dallas, 40 to 50 degrees. I don't think that the temperature has much to do with the weird idle.
The issue that worries me the most is wasting gas and putting un-needed stress on the motor being wound out so much all the time. I didn't expect this from the swap..

not to be rude but PLEASE state your problem in the title so ppl that know about tranny's will help you otherwise ppl dont like to go through all the "please help me" posts

do me a favor do a 80mph roll in fifth and tell me what you rev at. second of all si tranny's have short gears so usually b16 tranny's rev like 4.5 going 80.

let me know what you rev

Yea, it weirded me out for a while too (the high rpm thing). I rev to around 4k RPM at 70mph in 5th.

As for the idle, it could be a multitude of problems ranging from air bubbles in the coolant lines, mild vacuum leaks, dirty IACV, improperly set FIT valve, among other variations of problematic spots. (those are at least the most common issues...)

Yes, an indicated 3K rpm at 50-ish is totally normal for a B16 transmission. Mine shows 4100 at 70mph and 4500 at 80mph. They are geared low, and rev high... that's how they were designed.

Need a bit more information about the idle problem. Do mean that it idles different between cold and hot? Or that it idles different depending on which accessories you have switched on?

If the idle is changing on its own at operating temp, but not jumping up and down quickly, then I would say it means you have a dirty or bad Idle Air Control Valve, or throttle body, or throttle position sensor, or a combination of all.

And, I know everyone has already said this, but yes, it seriously helps draw people into your thread if you have a relevant title. Trust me.

I think he was talking about your engine runing when its cold(right when you start it), not when its cold outside
If it does still idle high at operating temp then it could be what SIMKIN314 said..

B16's are made to rev. I don't think honda would design them that way if it couldn't handle it. I do hear a lot of people installing a LS 5th gear in them for a lot of high way driving though

Ok I see. Next time I have a question I'll be specific..

But back to the topic again, I'll go out and do an 80 roll and see what happens. And about the idle, I'll have to do some tests. I'm about to start it from sitting for 2 days and drive it around the neighborhood. (not 80mph) lol. I'll post back here shortly.

For the idle: Try cleaning out the IACV or the FITV. If that doesnt help then adjust the idle screw. Still doesnt help check to see if the throttle cable is to tight or check if you have a vacuum leak some where. And if that still don't help try adjusting your dizzy back and fourth. Though most likely your timing won't make it idle high. But you never know
