Default ~EXPO Questions???~

Hi all, i know that many of you are newer users and that you might have questions about our annual event. Please feel free to ask us anything. We look forward to seeing new faces this year. Stay tuned for details to be released in the next few weeks. We have yet to announced a date or location, so i'd ask that you refrain from asking questions we can't answer yet. If you don't feel comfortable posting your question i will be happy to answer individual questions via PM. We look forward to hearing from you guys!

Edit: Here is last year's main link to EXPO 9. This will answer many initial questions you have. https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-type-r-8/expo-9-%40-autobahn-country-club-south-may-18-19-registration-open-2473982/

I've only read and seen videos about expo, but never actually been. For how long does the event usually take place? What are the goals in this event? Is it a free-for-all on a racetrack? or organized events throughout? Basically, what is the purpose? Besides looking at the gorgeous cars all day long.

I hope some info comes out soon for Expo 10... I need to plan out my vacation time. I think I may be able to make it to this one without having to even think about traveling from Seattle to the east coast.

^^^ Are you serious,
Its a two day event track optional and banquet dinner.

The goal of the event is to get the R community together and have a good time at the track. Most of these guys know each other since 2000 and its the only time they get to see each other and catch up.

Its not a free for all at the track, it is clearly organized to a participants skill level.

There are special events throughout

The purpose is to have a good time and meet ITR owners from across the country

Great Questions. I'm glad someone finally chimed in. EXPO is typically a Mon/Tues event for the specific reason that tracks are much cheaper to rent during the week than on the weekend. The event itself is always 2 days long. Most will arrive the evening before and some will stay until the following day after.

EXPO like any other track event is an HPDE (High Performance Driving Event). Our goals as a small club are to provide Type R owners and enthusiasts the opportunity to track their cars at an event dedicated to the car. Our event is designed to provide a fun and educational atmosphere with no pressure to push your car or abilities further than your comfort level.

It is NOT a free-for-all on track. The event is highly organized and operated in different run groups. Typically there are Novice (Beginner), Intermediate, Advanced and Advanced/Instructor run groups. Based on your experience level you'll be place into the appropriate run group and paired with an instructor. Your instructor will ride with you during your sessions throughout the two days and provide one-on-one feedback during your session. Depending on your individual skill level, you may or may not get signed off to drive your session by yourself once your instructor feels confident in your ability. Rarely is a Novice driver signed off the first day, and usually only the last or 2nd to last session of the 2nd day of the event.

Overall, the event serves as the opportunity for Type R owners from all over the country the opportunity to get together and celebrate the Integra Type R. In addition to the 2 day track event, you can look forward to meeting tons of friends all with the exact passion for the car that you have as well as attending our annual banquet during after hours of the first day. The banquet consists of an introduction of all the personnel who help make the event possible as well as recognising all of our instructors and event sponsors. Every year we give out thousands of dollars worth of car parts and gift certificates donated by our sponsors.

I wish i could paint a better picture of exactly how much fun you will have, but to experience it all you just have to attend. There are very few who don't attend EXPO for their first time who don't come back year after year. There is something for everyone, and each year brings a new opportunity to meet new friends in this incredible network of owners.

Just to add a bit to what Jon has written...

Most drivers want to learn how to drive on the track, and improve their skills during the course of the event so that they can drive faster lap times. It's not a race (no one keeps track of who's faster than who). Passing is only allowed on the longer straights (not in curves) and the car being passed has to give a signal before the car behind is allowed to pass. It's all done very courteously.

There will be a lot of information to absorb. When you arrive at your first event, you'll probably be excited and maybe also a bit scared, just because you don't really know how it works until you do it. You'll start out going very slowly to "learn" the track. Your first session, you'll start out thinking that every turn looks like every other turn. By the end of that session, you'll start realizing which turn is which, and by the end of the second session, you'll start to remember the "line" you want to drive. The line is where you want to position the car at each point around the track - the left edge, the right edge, or any point between the two. This is part of driving faster and faster. The sharper the turn (i.e. the smaller the radius), the slower you'll need to go to get through it. And you'll need to make adjustments, based on terrain (elevation changes), camber (a turn can be banked in either direction), and other factors (e.g. you may take a turn different if it's followed by a straight than if it leads to an even sharper turn). You can reduce the amount of pressure on yourself by deciding to start out driving slowly and increasing your speed a little bit at a time, lap by lap, based on how comfortable you feel. (Some people mistakenly think they're going to be the fastest one out there because they've driven 100 mph on the highway, and it doesn't work that way.) It will take you a whole lot of events before you can drive exactly the line you want, but it will only take a day to understand what the line you want to drive is. By the end of the first day, you'll be able to play a movie in your head, of driving through the entire track, and each turn you encounter.

You also need to realize that (a) you won't be the only one there who has never driven in a track event; in fact, your entire run group will probably consist of novices, and (b) the rest of us all started out as novices at one time and we're happy to give helpful advice.

There will be a lot of things to think about, but by the end of the event, you will probably be telling yourself that it's even more FUN than you ever imagined, and you can't wait to do more driving events.

For a bit more detailed explanation of how an HPDE event works and what you need to know, the NASA website has some good articles. Click here and scroll down to the links under the heading "HPDE Articles" and read those articles. Then feel free to ask more questions!

To put it plainly: LOTS... you generally get 5 sessions consisting of around 20 minutes of run time, should you choose to use it all.

Thanks for the responses Jon D and nsxtasy. It will indeed be my first time on the track with my ITR, but I'll probably be the youngest guy there.

I was once in your shoes! Don't be intimidated, you'll be shocked at how accomodating everyone you'll meet is.

Chris Tybor, username (Aquafina) started coming when he was like 17 if i am not mistaken. He is a great guy, asset to the community, and has been one of our sponsors since 2006.

You'll have a blast! Just the sight of so many ITRs in one place will have you floored. I'll never forget my first EXPO walking around with my jaw dropped to the ground.

You are already way ahead of the game with a username that people can remember. That was the first thing i changed when i got back from EXPO 4. One of my best friends that i met that first year told me flat out, "dude, you need to change your username to something people can remember". He was definitely correct. To this day i try and tell others what a difference it makes when you come out to our events and introduce yourself with a name that is easily remembered. It might sound stupid, but watch what a difference it makes.

That could not be more true. "ITR0466" and no one will have any idea who you are. "Heel_touge" and right away everyone remembers, "Oh, its that ricer with the splitter and APR wing!"

For example, it's especially memorable if your username contains the word "poop".

I struggle to come up with Brian's name when i see him, but the word PooP pops up immediately LOL.

Username's can definitely be a conversation piece, but if it is boring like ITR804...nobody will ever remember it.

First name and first initial of last name is always a solid choice, hence the reason i changed mine long ago.

I recently had my username modified by GK for those exact reasons, since I've purchased my ITR I've been talking to more and more people and enthusiasts on here, so with a username that's slightly easy to remember I don't think is a bad thing. And yes, Aquafina does have me beat, I'll be a few months short of 21 when EXPO takes place for 2010.

Expo Folks,

Ever thought of coming down here to the New Orleans area for the Expo? We have a reasonably fun and safe track that is supposed to get upgraded by 2011 or 12, and its co-located with a drag strip if anyone is intrested.

I would be willing to bet that the track could be had for cheap on say Mardi Gras weekend. Friday-Sunday at the track and carnival on Monday and Tuesday. PM me and I could put you in touch with the new track ownership.

Yeah my name is pretty boring but I think once they figure out I'm the one witht the ccw it will raise some eyebrows.

How can I change my SN?

As for the expo, what are some thing you guys change to get it ready for the expo vs having it as a street car? Brake pads and stuff along that line

I think you're missing the point. No one is going to remember YOUR number, regardless of what your car is/parts you have.
