Icon6 Distributor question... Vtec to non-Vtec?

Thinking I might have to replace my distributor soon. I know an LS distributor will work on an LS Vtec engine with modification to the mounting feet. Since i plan to take my LS to and LS-V in the near future, would i be able to run a Vtec distributor on my LS until i do the conversion? i understand modifying the feet might be needed as well. I'd like to just buy the Vtec one if it will work and then ill have the proper one when i convert to LS-V.
