Default bearing noise coming from crank area

hey all when it cold outside which is everyday now, I get a loud scraping noise from crank area like a bad bearing in a pulley but I removed all the accessory belts and still heard the noise, is there any thing that the timing belt spins on that can make this noise. I have great oil pressure all day everyday so I dont think its spun a bearing.

What motor are you running? JDM H22A like in your sig?

If its a bad bearing, you'd be hearing a loud knock coming from your engine block or under from the oil pan. Very notice-able. It might be your timing or balancer belt that is rubbing on something, but it would smoke though; because, I've seen it happen to one of the guy I know from another forum.

Could be a tensioner pulley, waterpump, piece of broken timing cover, balance shaft. You gotta rip it apart to see what it is.

I'll try to take it apart tomarrow, I hope its something simple. I hear so much of the automatic tensioners failing should I switch to manual or can I use the newer ones from the 01 h22's I read somewhere they were redone and better but do they fit?

Honda fixed the issue. There is a new part number. If you are tearing it apart to see and haven't changed it yet, I'd go ahead and do it anyway. But yea, there is the timing and balance belt in there.

good news its not anything on the inside of the motor or the timing belt, the harmonic balancer has shifted over and its rubbing on the timing cover. is the crank pulley and harmonic balancer 1 piece?? no one carries it so im going to honda tomarrow. will I need a puller to remove the crank pulley or will it slide off after removing bolt?

The bolt might be hard to take off, you might need the special tool to remove the bolt, but once it's off, the pulley will just slide right off.

Lucky it wasn't anything internal.

I've had an H22 harmonic balancer go out before also. It was on a JRSCed prelude.

is the crank pully moving off balance?

It could be just the timing belt cover being loose moving towards the crank but if the pulley moves out of balance than Id remove the pulley and inspect.

Isn't the crank pully and the harmonic balancer the same thing? The harmonic balancer is the rubber part in the crank pulley that dampens vibrations?

Yeah it's a pain if you don't have the right tools on this job, for sure.

I hope all it is is the pulley. I had the same noise which turned out to be the pulley shaving the key and chewing up the end of my crankshaft. Long story short crank was destroyed so had to replace it. Hope yours isnt that bad.
