STC "Silver Surfer" On A D series?
Im neck deep into my Y8 build and was wondering if anyone out there has used STC's "Silver Surfer" made by "The Shodan" himself? I've spoken personally with a B series owner and seen a dyno chart but im looking for people who have had a personal experience on thier D series becuase this is the direction im leaning towards in putting down more or less 400whp with a good amount of tq. The motor will be fully built on STOCK SLEEVES. I got rid of my SC61619sp for the fact that this car will be dailied and also driven to the track whenever i desire and I didn't want a street car reaching full boost up and near 6k even though the head will be fully built and whatnot so throw me some input and let me know your experiences with this turbo
I'll be the first to admit. For the power that he's trying to obtain the WAY he wants to obtain it on pump gas, this may be his best option for the price. The issue that I come up with on his project is the fact that the D-series heads are notoriously inefficient unless the correct work is done. That being said, out of all of the hundreds of platforms that I've dealt with, very few of them involve a d-series setup such as this, because face it, this kind of build is NOT that common in the D-series crowd. (no disrespect to the turbo ninjas out there, but even with my D-series, I never really cared about doing this much power anyway, nor have many requested it.)
Based upon my experiences, conversations with other D-series gurus, and calculations, I've come to the conclusion that the Surfer is the best way to go. And yes, I looked at the Precision, Turbonetics, standard garretts, borg-warners, and others, and for what he's looking for, I feel this is the better choice. I've even had other customers contact him to let them know THEIR feedback with the surfer. This is a situation in which taking the plunge like this is the best option, because honestly, he's at the point when he has to "dive in", anyway.
Just wanted to give my reasoning behind the questions related to the surfer. Those that have one, feel free to speak up if you wish about your experiences with the characteristics of how the turbo responded with it in the car. I know 99% are B-series guys, but any d series, please let him know your thoughts.

That's actually what I got rid of lol to meet my goals of streetability while still being able to have decent power without squeezing the efficency out of it by boosting it 25 psi to make 350whp. I also like the tq curve it produces as I've seen on the b series with very little work done to them
I ran one on my dsm a couple seasons back.
My friend now runs it on his nissan.
I can tell you the shodan will stand behind this turbo if you have any issues, however if you want more details about what I thought of this turbo, PM me.

I was talking a bit back and forth to Shodan very nice guy has lots of info. From what he showed me about the turbo seems to be pretty solid and should do well. Im going to try and talk my boy into buying this for his single cam as well. So for sure keep us posted on how it does for you.
It's a turbo configuration. It uses a stainless exhaust housing so it get's it's "silver" from that. Since Mac is a creative fella he likes to name his turbo configurations....
Mac, doesn't Darren (also from CT) still run one of these? I know he is on a B-series, but still may be able to help with this....

The turbine housing used for the 1st gen is both ford style 5 bolt (what this forum considers to be a "standard" ) as well as 2.5" T31 4 bolt style.
