90 b16 tranny doesnt match up with 01gsr?
Swapping in my gsr, but now my friend said i cant use the j1 b16 trans on the gsr because some shaft is different? the guy i bought the car off said he thinks the motor was from a 90 but he wasnt sure, any way i can check on that? tranny still has serial on it. does anyone know what part i need to change out or if i can even use this tranny, as far as i knew i thought all B series were compatible but i searched and found posts saying up to 91 there was a difference? i have searched and i cant find what part i need to change so any advice would be awesome.
first n foremost, you need to take out the trans and count the number of teeth n the shaft. then do some research and find out what trans. had that many teeth in the early 90's and then shoot for the clutch setup for that trans, put it on bolt the trans back up and break it in.

yup, everyone on here is correct! your transmission doesnt actually connect to the motor except for the actual bolts and the shaft. which only touches the pilot bearing. all that matters is that the clutch matches your transmission.
now go school your buddy that said it wont work.

well that works out perfect because the motor that is currently in there is my b16 and i have the clutch setup from that, so i could just transfer everything over with no issues? when i picked up the gsr he left the old clutch on it.
