i had my car off the ground the other day and there is alot of play in the tires without turnin the wheel and my tire tread is wearing down quick someone told me to check out my rack/pinion or could my tie rods just be bad cause the boots are split how do i check?

 

When you wiggle the wheel, is the play in the tie rod ends or not? If it is, they're bad. If it's not, it's something else.

could also be balljoints, but usually they'll complain audibly.
