Default 403's without adjustable cam gears?

Like the topic says, can I run Crower 403's on the stock cam gears? I'm probably going to be purchasing them soon, or maybe the 404's with the springs and retainers.

Thanks

you could in theory but it would be pointless, you gotta tune in order to get your moneys worth out of them. Go w/ the 404's, tune them, and get some springs/retainers

i know, but on 0/0 they are still supposed to perform better than stock. And that was my reasoning in asking.

It is just a temporary solution until i get cam gears!

If I put 403's in my LS, what else would I need to go with them? Please give specific product names, not just "springs and retainers" because I don't know a lot about this stuff yet.

How much would putting cams in my LS hurt my bottom end? How much would it help my other ends? Is it possible to just buy the Crower 403 cams and put them in the car without putting other stuff? Or do I really need cam gears, springs, and retainers, and whatever else?

Thx,
Ben

untuned it will .. you get them tuned your not really gonna loose any body end ... increase the airflow, fuel and spark and youll get even more out of the cams than what crower shows on there dyno sheet ... its all in tuning

i daily drive the 62403z there nice .. i dont know if 62404 are pain to daily drive or not .. maybe someone else will chime in ... but yes get the springs and retainers from crower... as for the gears ... it doesnt matter too much what brand .. i have some STRz .. they are real nice and quality ... but you can just get the cheap AEM gears ..

I have crane cams stage 2 with no cam gears. With K&N drop in, fpr, ITR cat back, and cams I only made 127. I plan to get a 4-1 header then install cam gears and head back to the dyno. It seems like cam gears is a must to make good power with aftermarket cams.

Many people are recommending super high lift cams like the 404s to fellow B18Bers. You need higher higher compression to run those cams. Running high lift cams makes you lose cylinder pressure at low revs. Thats why with the 403s there's a loss in power down low and only starts to gain after 5k. With higher compression there would be gains much earlier and stronger through out.

Hmm well .. i am heavily modified .. that may be it .. but i didnt feel any loss of low end power ... also Crowerz Dyno charts dont reflect the loss either ???
