Help with broken dizzy.
Hi,
Did an OBD2B to OBD1 conversion and during the process, did the Vtec Pressure Switch bypass hack since JDM engines don't have a VTP and it would give a CEL or not enable VTEC. Connected A4 and D6 together by referring to this guide (http://www.phearable.net/tech/wiring/vtpsbypass.gif) on my harness converter.
This seems to have done something bad and killed my distributor. The car cranked a couple of times with the CEL on and limp mode. When I connected the Ostrich which had a properly configured basemap from ectune, the car sort of cranked for half a second and then died. Checked for spark which wasn't there. So decided to check a few things...
The relays were fine, so then checked a stock OBD2B ecu, again no go. Finally, putting an identical distributor cranked the car properly and it ran nicely. So now I have a ****ed distributor.
I'm not much of a car guy, but I opened up the distributor and checked out a few things. The rotor seems fine and I can't see any real damage on the ignition coil either. I will be trying another ign. coil soon.
For now, I'm looking for a new dizzy and I'm clueless on which one I should buy.
The engine (as sold in our country) is a combination of D15B bottom end and a D16 VTEC head (Y8 or Z6) with a D16Y7 intake manifold. The dizzy connector is obviously OBD2B type since that's what the car came with. Any suggestions on which dizzy I should buy?
And any suggestions on how I can go about fixing my busted dizzy and make sure this doesn't happen again? Thanks in advance!
