What kind of signal does the fuel level sender send?
The fuel tank sender will show varying resistance based upon what the fuel level is. I believe that it varies from 3-235 ohms, but I'd have to look it up in the Helms manual.
I have a '94 Civic that uses the OEM fuel tank and sender with an Autometer fuel gauge, the hardest part was ensuring that I had the correct wires for the gauge.
If it's anything like older-model Civics, then the signal that enables the low-fuel light is DIFFERENT from the potentiometer that indicates the fuel LEVEL. There is a separate sensor (hence the separate wire running right from the fuel meter). This signal will be ON/OFF (+12/0V).
