Default D16z6: 60-1 9:1 Compression - E85 Dyno Tune

This car belongs to Zach from Greenville, SC. We tuned it earlier this morning.

Here is the setup:
D16z6
CP 9:1 pistons
Eagle Rods
ARP Studs
Stock Head
Stock Cam
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
1000cc Precision Injectors
Walbro 255lph
PFab Log manifold
eBay 60-1
Tial 38mm
Motorola 2.5 bar MAP Sensor
Crome Gold
E85

The lower power chart is on wastegate pressure, fluctuating between 8.7 and 9.2 psi. The higher power chart is on the low boost setting on the Profec B, holding at 15.4 psi.

The clutch started slipping very bad before the higher boost levels were tuned. Zach ordered a Comp Stage 5 today, and should be back on the dyno next week to finish the tune. Also, before the re-tune, the MAP sensor will be swapped for a GM 3bar. We're looking for between 375-400 whp out of this setup.

tuning this on E85? Aren't there special seals and gasketys you have to use when running E85? What would be needed to convert the car to being able to run E-85 (other than a retune)

If the car was built since 1990, then it can handle E85 all day on stock fuel system components.

What's needed depends on the setup and on whp goal. Usually it's either one or a combination of the following.

Larger Injectors
Larger Fuel Pump
Fuel Pressure Regulator

In the case of this setup, his base fuel pressure is 60psi and by 7.5k rpms his duty cycle is about 70%.

If you PM me what you're working with and the goal I can probably give you a more specific answer.

I have to say, the boost response after shifting is unbelievably and ridiculously quick for a turbo that supports that kind of power, considering it's a single cam on top of everything else makes it that much more impressive.

^ That's what I said.

We'll find out for sure if it has cams on it when the valve cover comes off. The fuel curve is generally a excellent indicator of the cams and also the vtec engagement point that it likes. These cams start loosing efficiency right after 5.5k rpms. Based on that and the vtec engagement point, it reaaaaaally looks like a stock cam.

I agree, the torque curve is that of a stock cam... which makes me happy hahahhaa since I'm still using a stock cam on mine for a while LOL!

I'm sure you have more timing since your using e85 which might be helping. Good stuff guys!

Why do people use E85 on cars that make less than 4-500whp?? I just dont understand the logic

E-85 is cheaper than 87 octane around here, I believe.

E85 is basically a cheap race gas. Why not use it?

93 Octane is around $2.69 gallon
E85 is around $2.29 gallon.

Yes but it burns quicker so your not saving any money probabaly spending more cause of less mpg

How many stations for E85 are in your area?? We only have 1 and its like 5 miles to it. Its uses how much more fuel to run on it?? Does anyone ever figure that into the cost? IDK, i like being able to go to ANY station, get fuel and be on my way. I made 350whp on a Y7 non vtec, ran any 92 octane in it, no probs. 76, Chevron, even ARCO. I guess I dont like planning ahead to get fuel, as our ONLY station, closes at like 9pm also

first off, its CAM. there is only one in a SOHC engine. confusing, i know.

second off, if you want to know if it has an aftermarket cam, pull the dizzy and look for identification marks. unless its a cheater cam, and even then, pulling the VC wont show you anything.

E85 does burn around 40% more. So with the added savings it almost averages out. I deff didn't switch over to save money on gas mileage.

Around me I have around 15 E85 stations within 20 mile radius. Which most are 24 hour stations also. Getting E85 won't be a problem at all.

Pulling the Dizzy for identification marks? Thats a new one to me. Will pull it off and snap a pic today.

nice. you got a cam of some kind in there.

i did a quick google search, but cant come up with anything.

i would look into the usual suspects, Exospeed, Bisimoto, Gude, Crane, Crower, Comp, Skunk2, etc. phone around and give them the number, see if you can come up with anything.
