tapping a head for vtec
ok so ive heard off people taking there non vtec motors nd tappin them for vtec, so they dont pull the head, but they take out the internals and replace them with vtec cams rockers valve etc etc etc and then somehow tap the head for vtec. is this possible? do or have you seen it personally and how does it run?
what your asking about is a mini-me conversion which consists of taking a vtec head and putting it on a non-vtec block...check the FAQ 2.0 section since there are a couple write ups on how to do this...!!!
na not that. ive done a few of those before, im currently running a lsv-t set up. but im wondering if you could actually leave the head on and tap into the head for the solenoid and change internals for all vtec without removing the head. is it possible? if so id wanna try it on a separate d series i have to just mess around
yea i'm not thinking so. non-vtec heads are missing all the oil passages that allow vtec to work. its not set up to support the extra cam lobe. if it was possible at all i'd have to say it would be extremely difficult. not worth it when it would be considerably easier just to swap a ready to go z6/y8 head on there.
ya but what if it is possiable, what if you could change or make the oil passageways better. maybe keep a higher pressure of oil. or create more hp? or have a stronger vtec engagement?
I'm almost 110% sure that's not possible without some insane amount of machine work that would exceed the cost of building a whole motor. just go get a vtec head.
a stronger vtec engagement? it's either on or off, there's no in between. and how exactly would the vtec system alone make more power? it's simply a switch. trust me, you're wasting your time and effort even contemplating this.
