putting timing belt onto cam gears, without removing lover cover...
I took off the head on my gsr and I'm at the point where the head is on and I need to put the belt on the cam gears, but there is too much tension. Is there any way to loosen the belt without taking off the lower timing cover? I'v made all the alignment marks on the belt.
yep i just did this yesturday actually, but on an LS. you have to take off the motor mount, and power steering, then the plug for the tensioner. then just loosen the tensioner and but the belt on, but its still a pain, however, do able.
you dont need to remove the motor mount. you should be able to fit your arm down there with a rachet and size 14mm socket. loosen the timing belt tensioner and then re align your timing marks.
i got the belt on, but now i'm having another problem. when i rotate the crank twice through, i notice that the portion of belt in between the cam gears will build slack, then tighten, then slack, then tighten. this isnt normal is it?
also, the cam gears look like there lining up a 1/2 tooth off to the right of the timing mark on the crank. is there a secrete to this that i dont know about?
