Looking at & Test drove 2000 Integra - Tranny Question
Hi all,
I was hit head on in my 99 civic and got an insurance check for a new car. Looking at a 2000 Integra which I've heard good things about. 122k, REALLY good cosmetic condition. $3900.
I test drove it today and the transmission (automatic) felt a little weird to me. It wasn't sticking or revving to high before it shifted, it just shifted more...harshly i guess than my civic does. Again it didn't feel like a slip or stick, I was just very aware every time i changed gears if that makes sense.
Is this normal? Are the transmissions on '00 integras good? I need this thing to last to 200k or more ideally.

Automatic Integras are not known for the issues that some of the other cars are. Most of the issues were on the automatic V6 cars.
However, it sounds like the previous owner didn't take care of it correctly. Sounds like it has old fluid and/or a gummed up filter in it.
If you really want the car, use that as an excuse to knock down the pricing, and then get the transmission serviced properly.

Forgive me for being such a noob - what do you mean by have the transmission serviced ands how much would it cost. I should also note, it was very cold and took the car a while to warm up. Could that contribute to / exagerate the problem?
Many people seem to forget to get them serviced regularly, or don't know that it needs to be done.
An automatic transmission generally needs to have the fluid drained and refilled and the filter replaced at regular intervals. No clue what the Honda specified interval is, I've always done "2 years or 24k miles" on Chevy cars though.
Shouldn't cost that much to have done, unless it's so bad that parts will need to be replaced.
Yes a honda dealership could check it out. They will probably reccomend trans. fluid and filter change. Than go from there if they feel more needs to be done.
