I was always under th impression that the 1st gen CRX, 84-87, were mechanically the same, and that the major changes happened in 88. But I often see referenced that 87 was a major change. What is correct? Thanks, Mike

As far as my understanding of the models of CRX's goes - 1987 was the casp year for the models - the Gen1s finished up with last lot of productions in 1987 and the first lot of Gen2s came out in 1987. Same thing happens with the gen2s and gen3s (delsols) and its the same in the civic range and im sure other makes and models too. Overlapping.

Some countries did not receive certain models at certain years so thats also something to keep a thought of. For example the Gen1 crx was actually started production in 1983 however in the US they only came into sales in 1984 so many books and references will keep 1984-1987 while others will say 1983-1987 and yet others again 1983-1986 which is the 'official' year the gen1 stopped according to Japanese databases.

 

Okay.. so if the car looks the same, mechanically it is the same. The 88's came out in late 87, but it wasn't until model year 1988 when the mechanical changes happened.. correct? Mike
