Need a new way to mount head unit in my Integra. Please help.
OK, here's the problem. I've had the same Kenwood CD head unit in my last 2 Integras. 2000 GSR and 2001 Type R. The mounting adapter that Crutchfield gave me sucks. The unit fits in the plastic adapter fine, but i cannot sucure the whole thing in the dash. It basically is held into the dash by a C bracket in the back that the unit slides into. Whenever i take it to the track, it becomes unseated and flies out of the dash upon launching. The thing is very cheesy and now it's really starting to bother me. Does anyone have a different adapter to fill the large opening in the dash for the head unit? Or should i just deal with it and try to find a way to secure the existing hardware from the back? Any info or advice would be very helpful. Thanks...........
go to a local shop and get a american international kit best kit iv seen and i install for a living
im in installer at circuit city and we dont use kits unless needed to keep a more factory look but we do sell kits that are designed to look very similar and easy for customers to install.. we sell metra kits that have been great and we have not had anyone return sayin there kit sucks or broke since ive started working there as an installer.. a kit for a car is useally between 15-20 usually.. good luck
Actually, I just checked the package and it is american international. I put it in today and it is the sturdiest install kit I've ever used.
from me.
from me.
I was looking at American International's website (http://www.americaninternational.net/) and they had four different kits listed for the Integra: HON-K828, HON-K830, HON-K806 and UI-K777CL. Which one is the sturdiest and best looking??

Ok you want it to look the best? Heres the answer. Its long and Im bored so here it goes. I am also an installer/sales person for Circuit City, but I am going to give you a better way to do it than taking the easy way out with the kit. When you go to remove the stock stereo you usually have to do so by removing the to 8mm screws from the back bottom side of the stock radio. Start by doing such. Then remove the radio. Now take your stock radio and pocket combo (cause they both come out together) and take that and your new radio to the bench. On the sides of the stock radio you will find that it is held onto the pocket with a screw on each side and a small metal bracket. Take off those screws and brackets. This will allow you to remove the stock radio from the pocket. Now place the new radio on top of the pocket. You will now need to acquire some back strap (metal strap/bar that comes along with alot of aftermarket stereos) Take this strap and line it up with a hole on the side of the new radio and screw it on there (it has holes in it) Dont tighten it all the way. Now line up the backstraps with the holes on the side of the pocket where the little metal brackets used to be screwed to and screw the backstraps to the factory pocket. At this point you should have a radio mounted to the stock pocket where the radio sits pretty much flush with the pocket, apposed to using an aftermarket kit that spaces the radio out. If you have mad it this far you are almost there. Now you need to tak another piece of backstrap and attatch it to the center of the back side of the radio (there is a screw hole right in the middle of the back f the radio) screw that in there and then bend the bracket into an L so it sits flat with the bottom of the radio (this is how you are going to secure it into the dash) cut off any excess strapping you have hanging off. Now you need to get a speed clip (a clip that has a screw threading on it) You now need to clip this onto the backstrap that is screwed and bent on the back of the radio so you can secure it in the car. Now go to your car and plug the radio in and everything. Slide the radio/pocket combo into the car making sure not to pinch any wires while doing so. Once pushed into the dash you now need to get about a 1/2-3/4in screw and an upholstery washer and crawl back up behind the radio. The idea is to now have that L bent strap lined up with the same place where the stock radio was mounted to. You should be able to screw that 1/2-3/4in screw into the speed clip and it will secure the radio into the dash and you will have yourself a much better looking install than you would with any kit made. Hopefully this is of some use to you Integ owners, I know that everyone I have shown my radio mounting to prefers to have theirs mounted in the same manner, and hey its cheaper than buyin a kit too. If any of you guys have any questions feel free to post em here or PM me. Good luck.
Not a problem, I do what I can.
i've always used metra and never had a problem. they have 2 kits for the tegs. i with a eq hole, and one with a pocket. the eq mount is junk and never sits right. i didnt use a kit in my teg. i have a cassette radio and 6 disc in-dash cd changer so they both fit with some work.
