Default Wheel bearings the achilles heel of integras...?

Man every integra i have ever owned has had wheel bearing issues. granted the 91 DA coupe i just picked up has OEM suspensionw ith 160k on it but damn!

so yeah, getting a audible sqealing noise from my rear passenger side. definately sounds like a wheel bearing going out, its sqeaks once every rotation like "sqeak sqeak sqeak"

I heard some people their brake rotor sheild was actually causing the noise and not wheel bearing, how can i check this?

Yup Shield squeel FTL! Take your wheel off to see if its rubbing, if it is yank on it a bit so its not touching the rotor.

I have owned three Integras, 95 LS, 95 GSR, and my current 01 GSR, put thousands of miles on them, hard driving...commutes, winter, summer, auto cross, drag, never had a bearing issue....

Are you slammed or low offset? I've heard that can put extra stress on the wheel bearings. Otherwise they are not supposed to fail I think. On a different subject, to me the transmission seems to be a weak spot.

make sure #4 (brake rotor) is rubbing #31 (dust shield), the shield is thin metal and can be bent back by hand if needed.

I've heard that low offsets strain the bearing by lengthening the leverage arm that exerts force against the bearing. If the wheels are pushed out they will lever harder.

EDIT: That does make sense and after further reading it looks like you are correct.

Cool! That doesn't usually happen to me LOL. Usually I'm the victim of bad information.

thanks for the image Dpretro you tha man!!

but yeah im starting to think its not wheel bearing....because when the car sits still and let it move back and forth in first gear, i specifically hear it scrape during the little half rotations. it sounds like something is scraping on my rotors or someshit.

btw its a totally stock suspension with 160k

i got some shocks/coils that im gonna put on that car soon so i will check out the rotor thing when i do that.

could also be a frozen caliper dragging on the rotor, if so you will need to replace the calipers

If that's what it is it might be rebuildable. I had a frozen caliper bracket pin that was causing a similar problem, and a bit of PB blaster and hammering got it out. The problem was a hole in the boot let water in and it rusted tight. Once I cleared out the rust it worked like a charm.

i have done the same with good results but have been told by others that it was the incorrect/unsafe thing to do because the rust may cause pitting on the pin and it could freeze up/bind again. idk looks like it has worked for a few of us
