There's timing marks on the cam gears that line up with the head.. But you cant see them unless the valve cover and upper timing cover is off. Also there is timing marks on crank pulley to line up with lower timing cover. Do you have a manual for the car? It would illustrate this in the manual.

Do you want to know the ignition timing marks or the engine timing marks?

Ignition mark is on the lower timing belt cover. Engine mark for the crank is on the timing belt cover, crank pulley, crank, and block (depending upon what is visible). Painted timing marks and arrows on the cam pulleys won't be visible until the valve cover is removed.

i know this is an old thread but it came up in my search and i have a bit to add here. for lining up the crank to #1 tdc without the black plastic cover you can just align the notch on the pulley with the timing belt on the front side of the motor and thats 0 deg you can also use a screwdriver down the plug hole just be careful that its in the middle of the piston and stop when it stops moving up. the cam sprockets have a little UP in an arrow that should both be pointing strait up, 90deg to the gasket surface of the valve cover. :D
