CA BAR swaping from ob1 to obd2 motor questions!!!
ok right now i got a 1993 honda civic hatchback with a b16a3 ob1 (del sol doch vtec motor) and want to swap to a ob2 1997 b18c1 motor. will i have to swap everything to obd2 to get this to pass CA BAR or can i just keep it obd1?. if i have to change everything to obd2 what will i need to change up in order the pass this inspection?
***sorry if this is a dumb question. if the b18c1 was to be an obd1 motor then i wouldnt have posted this. HATE CA smog and LAWS!!!

run 2 O2 sensors (either 1 on the header and 1 on the cat).. make sure all evap are connected... knock sensor.. obd2 distributor..ecu and as long as it passes smog then ur good

wait.
last i read is that only "replacement engines" can be BAR'ed.
meaning only b16* in civics and b18*in integras
and you cant do b18* on civic cos civics never had b18's in them
is that right?

so i would have to convert everything to obd2? just thought that making it obd1 would be a hella of alot easier.
i think this applies to jdm motors. like if your usdm b18 went out. you can replace it with a jdm b18. as for the b16..

Hopefully u don't have to change ur gas tank. Cause my boy tried to bar a h22 in his 97 four door civic and they told him he had to change his gas tank because the motor was a 99.

lots of wrong info in here.. when swaping a motor it has to be the same year or newer then the car. the car is obd1 so you keep your obd1 system swap in the obd2 motor and hook up all the obd1 senors and call it a day... the obd2 senors are not needed your car doesn't pull up an a obd2 car so you don't need to covert it to obd2.
the thing is i want to BAR a obd2 motor into a obd1 car. what exactly will i need to do cuz the ref are hella strict.
keep it obd1... its easier and plus more ppl prefer obd1 over obd2 cuz theyre easier to tune... they even have obd2 to obd1 conversion kits... weird huh
they make obd2 to obd1 jumpers for apexi power fc... cause they only use obd2 clips
keep it OBD1 and BAR it as a 94 or 95 GSR motor with a OBD1 P72-A01 ECU. My friend had a 98 GSR motor that got BAR as a 95 in his EG hatch.
This is only true if you run an ECU that looks for the Fuel tank sensor which are in the 98 and up GSR ECU. So if you run an OBD1 p72 ECU you'll be fine. Hope this helps....

they don't care what year the motor is as long as it newer then your car.. they dont care if its obd2 obd3 or obd1000000000 as long as it running proper in your obd1 car.
