Default DOHC ZC SWAP...tranny/clutch issues...

so im preparing my ZC to drop it on my hatch...
i took apart the tranny that was on it cause the guy i got it from said the tranny was f#$%d up

removed all bolts starter and everything else that held it attached to the engine

tranny looks good and i pulled in gears and it would spin good with gears in and out but then again you never really know FORSURE until you test it on the actual running car..so it was off and i went ahead and unbolted the flywheel bolts to see how the clutch was...there was an ACT 4 puck disk in REALLY good condition(almost new if not new) so i was confused as to why the tranny wasnt working(would not shift in any gear)

i dont know much about transmissions and clutches so i started doing some research and found out that this is the disk i have
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ACT-S...mZ350290424238
i looked in several websites and some say that this clutch disks only works on SOHC engines o.O (is that why maybe the gears would never go in on the tranny and it really isnt broken OR maybe i need a different flywheel?)
so i thought i'd post here and let you guys know and see what you think since i dont know **** about this

'crx Si left(garbage bag) right off ZC (Hf possibly)
also i bought a 'so said crx Si tranny(looks to be in good condition just like the tranny on the ZC spins in and out of gears)' during the summer for really cheap

so im wondering wether it was the clutch that was causing this problem(since the guy i got this from was a total idiot) and if i can keep the tranny(Hf i think) or ill have to use the 'crx Si tranny i bought over the summer(89' )
DE-greased it lol see the difference

so if anybody knows if this clutch disk (act 4212004) works with DOHC engines and/or if a special flywheel is needed.
AND which tranny is best the older one(88'-89') or the other one just in case its working
any suggestions and any helpful advice are welcome as i need to set up a tranny for my swap ASAP
thanks

The DOHC shouldn't make a difference. As long as the clutch is bolting up to the flywheel then there isn't an issue.

I would be more concerned that the clutch was installed backwards or with the incorrect pressure plate.

i know that the that the clutch disce is right because you use a civic si clutch on the dohc zc but i know that the pressure plate is not act because act s plates are yellow and a si tranny is the best to use on a zc one suggestion is to by a fuel rail from a si for the zc because it helps i had a friend with a dohc zc and it helped alot i put the swap in so just shoot me any question you might have

ok if u use the l3 trans 88-89 civic si trans with 21 splines u need a 88-89 clutch and flywheel that clutch is gonna be way to agressive on that motor and i wouldnt recomend it for daily go with a competiton stg1 its the same as stg4 just not ment high power boosted motors etc and use a stock flywheel and make shure u torque them flywheel bolts to 89ft lbs and the pressure plate 23ft lbs other than that u should be good if dont torque properly the clutch with grab and pull those bolts out its happen to me no impact guns hand tighten them and use 1/2 torque wrench also to that clutch wont work with a factory pressure plate or a oem style flywheel so it may not be engaging

from the pictures, it looks to me like you have a 212mm diameter clutch disc mated to a 200mm pressure plate and a flywheel that uses a 200mm diameter clutch - get a 89 Si clutch disc - that unsprung hub ACT disc is going to break a lot of axles

yeah im thinking the moron maybe had put the clutch in backwards but again since i took everything apart so quick i dont remember how it was put before...
this clutch is 212mm i read it somewhere..now is this clutch compatible with an 90-200(double line tranny) and with this pressure plate?

also i looked up this disk and the 'kit' comes like this with no pressure plate...does that mean i can use my oem one?

and idk i read the engines the disk is compatible with and for some reason it says SOHC not DOHC
and i asked a buddy of mine that works with rx7s and turbos and he told me the same that some clutches can be used for EITHER OR SOHCs and DOHCs not interchangeable

to use that ACT clutch disc on the DOHC ZC, with the transmission you have, you need to use the 90 and up D-series flywheel and 90 and up D-series pressure plate

the reason it says SOHC is because the USDM CRX/Civic with D-series engine only came as SOHC - the DOHC ZC is a JDM D-series engine and uses the same flywheels and clutches as the USDM SOHC D-series engines

the DOHC ZC transmission is not exactly the same as the SOHC transmission - the DOHC ZC transmission uses an intermediate axle shaft and larger equal length axles like the Integra

soooo correct me if im wrong
89 and down 200mm
90 and up 212mm
and since i got a 212 clutch disk i obviously need a 90 and up flywheel and pressure plate

is there any way to check if you flywheel and clutch are 200mm or 212mm ?

Hey I read the post. An I have an exedy flywheel an bought the d series clutch for it an for some gay reason the clutch didn't mout up too the flywheel. The disk was way too small. Wen I took the tranny off I had an ACT presure plate with a stock disk. So am I just gonna have too get a higher year clutch or change out the exedy flywheel too oem. Let me know
