is 140k too much mileage for an s2k
im in the market for an s2k and only have like 8k or less to spend..only thing i can get are salvage or a 00' with 140k miles.
-when does an s2k require a rebuild if any at all?
- anything you have to watch out for after 100k? etc etc

all depends on how previos owner treated the car.. **** could of drove it like a grand pa lol or could of drove it like he stole everyday... i would do a compression test look for signs of leaks.. check the fluids...
This is a Honda, the car is very reliable. The motors arnt the best to rebuild do to the FRM sleeves; they scratch easy. I just finished my motor with Darton sleeves, inlinepro rods and Je pistons for around 3000 dollars.
lol i dont know im in the market for a s2 but im looking under or around 100k my 95 hatch has about 100k now. and still running strong

I would give a good look over of the motor and drive train, try to get someone who owns an S2k or is very familiar with them to drive it and help you.. try to attain any and all info you can about the car including service records and previous owner info ect.
over all: go with your gut feeling.
on a side note; a co-worker of mine had an 00 s2k that he beat up ALL the time, he drove this thing HARD! it was still running strong with over 120k and he bought it with a little over 40k and it was even stolen and recovered not long after he purchased it.

honestly i used to have a 00 s2k with 150000 miles on it, everything is take care, nothing wrong with it at all, zero problems, like many people said, its a honda, if this is an euro, i would tell u dont go for it, but search around before you get one, cause i recent sold my s2k for only $7000 and everything is in mint condition. deals come in and out so just be patient for it.
My friend sold his s2000 a few weeks ago to a friend with 138k and he beat it every day (friend was well aware) and the car had perfect compression and a leak down came back perfect. He was actually going to boost it until he found a different car he wanted, depending on the price and how much you have set aside for repairs that may come up; I'd say why not?
If you only have 8k to spend I would look for another car, that's just me. You can get a nicely modified car for that price. You can also get a very high millage stock S2000 for that price. Look into the 95+ 240sx to break into the RWD scene.
i dont think 140K is bad at all - just do what everyone else is sayin, get a compression and leak down test done and check for leaks on the motor and tranny, if everything comes back good and looks alright then i dont see why you wouldnt purchase it
honda motors tend to run forever with just basic maintanence - my old hatch had a d16z6 in it that had an interesting life - 100K miles in my friends EX then went to another friend for like 40K miles then i ended up with it and i drove it to over 200K miles and thats when the stock clutch finally started going and the valve seals went too (this motor was beat on since the day my friend first got the EX from his mom with 70K miles on it, she was original owner)

The previous posters are correct, it really depends on how the previous owner treated the car....and with 140 comes wear on the insides like the seats and such.
Just something to think about.

Hmm, if $8K is your price, I would seriously suggest another car. I'm sure you can find one for that price, but you're going to get what you pay for.
