Default '91 Civic Hatch DX 1.5L 16V...

I need help, i want to FIX up my car but i have the slightest clue where to start. Here are my promblems with my car right now that i need to fix before the car is going anywhere above 25mph....

-New Fly wheel( Might just need resurfacing)
-New CV Boots
-And new Shocks/Struts
-New brakes(I want to change the back drum brakes for the disk brakes)

Wants:
-VTEC engine(idk which one will be good for me)
-Some nice wheels
-Nice catback or exhaust system(still dont know which one, i dont want one that sounds like crap though a good deep sound would be nice)
-Cold Air intake
-Maybe Turbo...
-Spark plugs and a new computer.

Can anybody help me point me or tell me the best products for these parts? Please, I'm very new to this Forum and I'm a noob when it comes to cars. I know almost every basic thing on the car, dad is some-what a greese monkey.

THANKS!!!

Lurk around here for a while and do a whole lot of reading. In the end, money is the biggest factor to any build. Read through the FAQ on this forum's main page and search, search, search for answers to any questions you may have. Anything you might be considering has been done and covered here beyond count. Good Luck

For the engine if you want to keep it single cam with the most power, get the d15b vtec engine. If dual cam you should go b16. Mainly because its a small car and 150hp is plenty enough to get that thing to scoot. Since youre not very mechanically inclined i would hold off on the turbo till you know more about cars. Im not trying to put you down but you should do some research and figure out what setup is right for you. It took my buddy about a year to figure out if he wanted to boost his ride or not. Finally he did with the most basic setup. So dont go on a qwest for the most power, unless its gonna be easy to drive and wont get you into trouble. Everything else you can buy to your hearts desire; wheels, exhaust, suspension etc....

It sounds to me like your car needs a lot of maintenance. My suggestion is to get the car running properly and then "soup" it up. You money will be better spent getting the car into proper shape otherwise your compounding issues.

Alright cool. Thanks guys. And the maintanence thing... my parents got me this car and the pervious owner didn't know how to treat cars well. When I got it, it had no brake, a/c, and oil fliuds in it whatsoever. so I put in some and it runs good. I need to give this car a major engine/suspen tune up. But after all that I need to know where to start. I just found out while I was reading the UM that my hatch doesn't have power steering. Haha. but anywho, why shouldn't I resurface my flywheel? Me dad and I drove it today and the gears don't seem to grab hold. 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th gears are shotout. But 3rd is fine for some reason. My dad says I shouldn't get a new flywheel, why shouldn't I get a new one? If it were up to me, I would just get a clutch kit rather than beating the bush ya know? I'll try to post up some pics. But please lmk more, a little background info on me. You all might kill me, or think I'm just one of those teenage punks. I'm really interested in cars, always have been. I'm 717, I'm still getting use to driving manuel, my goal for my car is to at least get 150-160whp. I wanna learn how to drift(I'm sorry if I'm a noob or you think I should be in front of a comptuer screen playing Gran Turismo... but I really love cars). I don't want my car to be street illegal. And I want to mess around with alomst everything on my car.

Thanks,
Chris.

Ahhhh, I love the drive, when you first get into and you just want the feeling of building something with your owno 2 hands. Rekindles my love for cars, but just get a new flywheel, when you resurface a flywheel it obviously loses some of its rotating mass and it becomes thinner, thus meaning the clutch has to grab closer towards the engine, and etc its just not wise, especially since you wanna upgrade it anyway. and LOL at street illegal almost eveerything we do is considered "illegal" lowering, deleting cats, etc

Damn your 717? Thats Crazy! anyways that sucks your parents bought you a car with problems. At least your parents bought you your first car lol. If you want to save some some weight take the A/C and Power steering if you dont want them. If youre only going for 150 little ponies then i suggest you snag up a b16 vtec engine or an Ls b18 out of an acura integra. Great motors that hold quite a bit of power. Adding mods of course will boost the power. Oh yeah and another thing, you wont be able to drift your civic unless you make it rear wheel drive. Being that the civic is a front wheel drive car, i mean you could drift it by power breaking or whatever but thats just stupid lol.

I disagree 100%

lightened flywheels take away a lot of driveablilty. Stock, resurfaced flywheel for the win.!!11!

Cool cool. Should I save up my money to get a new engine? Or should I just start building on my engine and get a new one later on? And yes im just 17... But hell, I think I know a quite a bit when it comes to cars for the(maybe) majority of the teens my age. And if i wan to get my new engine, do they sale some on this website that will surely fit my car?
