Heat no working well in 1997 accord
I have a 4 cylinder 4 door accord dx value package. Does anyone have a good picture or a good description of how to access the thermostat. My heat does not get very hot (it gets a little warm) but not warm enough to counter 15 degree weather so I am pretty certain I need to replace or fix my thermostat, but I cant figure out how to access it. Is it accessible from the top of the car or do I need to go under neath.
check this out found this https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...t=heater+valve
Locate the lower radiator hose, at the opposite end of the lower radiator hose to the radiator is where the thermostat housing located. The housing held up by "2" 10mm bolts. There is another 10mm that holds the ground. For easy access, remove the distributor first, and also the air intake arm. But mark it first so you can put it back correctly with the right timing. get a marker, make a line across the top of the mounting where the 12mm goes.
Will probably take you about 2 hours if you had never done this before. Accessibility to the 10mm is a bitch.

not sure how much different it is on a 94 EX but when i did mine a few weeks ago it wasnt a problem to leave the distributor on. make sure you drain the radiator first or you will have a big mess on your hands. the drain plug is a plastic wing nut on the bottom of the radiator. on mine it is white and there is a hole in the skid plate so you dont have to remove the plate. you may need pliars to get the nut started to move. BTW you dont have to take it all the way out. as you loosen it there is a hole below it that it opens up for coolant to drain.
make sure you bleed and belch the system when you are done. there is a bleeder valve on the thermostat housing. start the car with the radiator cap off. loosen the bleeder valve and close once the stream of coolant is solid with no air bubbles. it helps to have a friend watching the coolant level and adding coolant as necessary. once you close the bleeder valve run the engine with the radiator cap off until the fans turn on at least twice. if you watch you will see it bubble some. make sure it is done bubbleing or you will probably develop a bouncing idle. when you shut it off add coolant to the resevoir if necessary then start the car again and check for leaks.
REMEMBER DO NOT LEAVE COOLANT WHERE ANIMALS CAN DRINK IT!!! THEY LIKE THE SWEET TASTE AND SMALL AMOUNTS CAN KILL THEM!!!
BTW before i did my thermostat my heater barely worked. now it works perfectly. hope it works as good for you.

Have you check your Heater Control Valve? those are known to get stuck which will let no coolant in and there won't be no heat coming in.
It's located at the firewall if you follow the heater hose(Underneath the distributor; smaller coolant hose) back to the firewall.

Its not to hard to get to once you get the intake off and the small support bracket for the wires.
Just somewhat hard to see that second bolt.
Between this and your post on HAF, you should be set to go!

i agree. i knew it was there so i just felt around for it. wasnt too bad.
I looked for that heater control cable, however, I could not find exactly what was shown in the link. I did find this cable though, however, it did not move when I turned the heater **** and there is definitely some sort of movement in temp when I turn that ****.
If you look in the picture that shows the cable, that it was is emerging from my dashboard. The other picture shows what it moves when I pull the cable. I am not sure what it is moving.

okay so my winter weater is doing the smae thing...(96 accord)....can you guys send picture of what and where to start so it makes heat....i'm cold...haha
have a friend turn the **** from hot to cold while you look under the hood. You will see the cable. It looks just like a bicycle brake cable. I just put mine in the hot position in the winter and push it to the cold position in the summer. I,m lazy
I don't have a pic but its on the passenger side of the car to the left of the intake manifold.....if you still dont see it look at the firewall and almost dead center there are two hoses the one on the left should go back to the heater control valve....but it still could be broken because the shaft can break because the valve is corroded shut.....does ur temp **** bind when you turn it?
I am not sure what you mean by bind, but when I turn the **** it definitely doesnt turn linearly, I have to push it a bit to go at the ends, so I guess that probably means it binds. One time when I took off the control **** it pulled out the shaft with it. I then put the shaft back in when I put back in the ****. Could that be causing the problem.
