Do sleeves go bad?
After i while i know shocks give out but what about sleeves? A friend wants to sell me used coilovers for cheap and i have new shocks just waiting.. jw if the sleeves ever get a lil less stiff or something. Is that something i shouldn't have to worry about for another 1,000 years?
It depends which kind you get. If you are talking about ebay sleeves, they can get stressed and crack so they do get bad. Its mostly because the ebay ones probably use a thinner sleeve compared to skunk 2 or GC. Just check them over for any signs that might lead you to believe they will fail.
ive seen sleeves that were made of steel (back in the day stuff lol) rust and freeze up so you cant adjust them anymore. also seen ebay sleeves crack like mentioned above, and the skunk2 sleeves that have been on my car for like 3 or 4 years have flared out on the bottoms where they sit on the perches of my struts up front, but they havent cracked or anything and i trust them to keep holding up. i have also seen a set that were installed without using the rubber grommets or o-rings that keep the sleeve parallel to the strut, end up rubbing on the strut and wearing through lol.
