Most folks would just replace the unit..

Usually,if the brushes are worn out,
Then the armature will be deeply grooved...

If you can remove the old brushes, a NAPA,an electrical supply company
or maybe a electrical motor rebuilder might be able to match something up..

i know there's a local shop here, that specializes in starter and alternator rebuilds. he also does cordless drills and things like that. i know a few people that have had other types of electric motors rebuilt by this guy. but, in all honesty, it'd probably be cheaper to go the the junkyard and buy a used unit.

A good hardware store should have some that are close enough. I just replaced mine with some filed to fit and soldered the new brush pig tails to the honda power bracket.
It was noisy at first because of the grooves on the armature so I turned it down in a lathe, and now it is perfectly smooth.
