Default 97-01 CRV Suspension Setup

I have a 99 CRV that has ~115K miles on it. Good condition, but its going to be my winter/bad weather beater.

I know I'm at a point where the shocks need to be replaced as they are original. While I'm doing this, might as well throw a set of mild lowering springs on there as well.

So my question--what would be a decent set of shocks (thinking KYB's) and a decent set of mild lowering springs?

I know I could do Konis and a coilover sleeve, but I don't really want coilovers and I probably don't need shocks that good. I'm also not looking for a slammed ride; something more mild is preferred.

I also don't want to break the bank on parts, either. Any recommendations?

Yeah, I did some looking around. A lot of people want more lowering than I do, though. The KYB's look like good shocks, but I don't want to lower the car too much and I kinda wanted progressive rate springs instead of a linear like the sleeves take.

kyb's will not lower your V, instead itll make your ride/handling a little
stiff than the oem ones, w/c is good if you use a progressive springs
ill recommend HnR springs, coz ive used/tested it before i went all out
on slamming my V(it is still properly/well tuned-balanced)..

good luck!

Yes, I realize that shocks don't lower the car; springs do. But if I only lower mildly, the KYBs will be fine. I wouldn't use the KYBs if I were trying to slam my car--I'd use Konis.

I saw the H&R Sport springs lowered about how I wanted, but I didn't know if another reputible company made mild lowering springs as well.

before thereas a lwering spring from eibach...much better for me
rather than HnR, theres also tein and tanabe, but you have to source
it out, mainly tein and tanabe are being marketed more around asia
than here in US.. if you wanna go tein, i think heeltoe automotive(just search)
carries it here and itll be shipped from japan as a special order, youll be
waiting for a good 45-60 days, i know theres someone from hondasuv selling
his set, you might wanna check it out...

Assuming that I use the CRV KYB specific shocks, will the Integra coilover kit allow me enough adjustment to only lower the CRV 1"-2" or so?

Again, I am not looking to slam the car--just make it a bit more sporty.

I also have several 8" long springs in the 400lb range, and that might be about perfect for a CRV. I can buy a cheap set of sleeves from ebay and save myself some money.

Just because the struts are old doesn't mean they need to be replaced. Mine is a 99 too with similar mileage. Mine rides just like it did the day it was new.
If you want to improve performance that's fine, just don't expect to fix something that's not broken.

There is no way OEM shocks with 100K miles on them are as good as new. Absolutely no way.

They might still have a little life left in them, but by no means are they what they once were.

3 questions to the masses...........

Is there a preferred option to the strut replacements.........
Is it replace the inserts or replace the towers whole?
Is there a particular aftermarket strut that mirrors OEM shocks?

Ta.

They aren't struts on the 97-01--they are shocks in a coil-over shock/spring setup. Therefore, the entire shock unit that sits inside the spring gets replaced.

OEM shocks or KYB seem to be the best bet. Koni if you want to spend a bit more and want the adjustability.

Do Gabriel shocks stack up in comparison??

I can get a set for about $700 A...........

I'm not looking to mess with the car.........just to get rid of the sloppy ride.

?

yup i tried ebay,,, they're selling h&r coilspring for 200 and shipping here costs 56, is that a good deal? you said you we're from the philippines right @ qwrty? if i do the accord coilover would i just replace the existing coilover? all four? the thing i don't like with my crv is that the front end looks a little higher than the back, that is why i wat to replace my spring, h&r offers a more lower hieght in the front.

well with the accord coilover you could also do that!!!
its adjustable....!!!! youll have to remove your oem spring
and replace it w/ the coilover sleeves.. then your good to
go! the stance of your vehicke will depend on how much you
will add or lessen the gaps ob the sleeves, i suggest not going
all the way half of the sleeves..you might bottom out and
destroy your suspensions..especially the front pair!

Decided to go with Ground Control/Koni myself,
with a full set of these
http://www.ground-control-store.com/...nt-RACE_fs.jpg

GC is/was running a special on the full set with top hats for a decent price. I was tempted to call them up and ask if they would sub the shocks for a set for the CRV, (seems the shocks for the type r work great for slamming a CRV but like to blow due to the weight difference)

I found one guy on here from OK thats running the same thing and actually tracking it with a pair of GC for a CRX. Something like 500/550. I was thinking something closer to 600/400 any thoughts?
I know SE-Rious is using a set of Ksport which is 12k/7k? and the price is lower than the GC/koni setup but im not sure would be able to get thing as low as id like. I remember SE-Rious saying he still had room to drop it another 1.5 inches but based on the install pics it looked like he was about maxed.

I'd be very curious to know what rates everyone else is using and how the ride quality is.
Qwrty?
ARMED?
Illegal?
any of you guys around?
Im used to a pretty firm ride, my crx and EK hatch both had a set of buddyclub race spec dampers.
