i recently swapped a motor in my ek put a zc motor and it runs strong. i was driving i hit 4000 rpm switched to second my car died and it turned back on and smoke came out my vents. pulled over to the side and turned my car back on and drove it at least 10 miles car was fine. it was running like it had no problem but my question is why did that happen?

crawl under the dash and look around for burnt wires...

 

do u have a battery tie-down?
your battery might of jumped up when u downshifted, grounding your positive and negative
which would explain why your motor shut off....

 

The only time i've seen that happen to a car the battery welded itself to the hood, so i think if his hood has a counter-weight when he opens it he'll know what's up.
