Default test pipe

Is there any gain to having a test pipe nstead of a cat? I had a gutted cat on my last civic, and black crap was all over my rear bumper. Will that happen with a test pipe? I'm goin with a skunk2 one, if that matters

A gutted cat will have slightly worse flow because it flares out and goes back in because of that chamber. A test pipe is straight through and no chance for obstruction.

Brand of test pipe won't matter at all as long as it holds together. It's a pipe, you really can't screw it up, even eBay can't.

The test pipe will not gain low end torque, it will improve top end.

guessing reason why it only improve top end torue is because the higher rpm your in, the more exhaust your pushing out... and with the test pipe you have less backpressure
