all i want is 14's
i drive a 98 ls.... i've read topic after topic for the last 6 months, all i've done to my car thus far is aem cai, hks hyper exhaust, kyb agx with ground control coilovers, b&m fpr with gauge... i don't want to go f/i or nitrous(maybe nitrous, but i don't want to rely on it)... so i need a header and a high flow cat... i'm lookin at crower 403's, possibly 404's, adj cam gears, and safc... what else will i need to run mid 14's besides an immense amount of tuning. anybody recommend the 404's for daily driving or should i just stick with 403's? so help me out, what else will i need?
all motor ls wont hit 14. stop wasting your money and start buying turbo parts. i had ordered some 404s wanting "just a little more horsepower" then i realized that i could be getting a lot of turbo parts with that money, and got my money back. besides, teh crower ls cams are on backorder for what seems like forever. i ordered mine back in june and they're still not ready yet... huge waiting list, good luck getting them unless a shop has them in stock.
I think you could do it with i/h/e crower 404s are you talking like 14.99999? lol
Theres someone on the board that has p&p head, 404s i/h/e and I think he runs low to mid 14s maybe he will say something

if you looking for mid 14's with bolt on's and minor internal, especially on LS, GOOD LUCK, you'll need more then just that. Maybe some aftermarkey heavy duty internal, bore .20 over, multi angle vavle job done too it and some good tranny work(recommended LSD), then you'll be good to GO.
i know it's alot of work just to put down a .5 or so off your e.t. but if you want your time, thats what you got to do. I recommend doing a little at a time, run your basic bolt on's, upgrade your head internaly, work on some good clutch and fly wheel, possibly get LSD. Take it to the track often everytime you do upgrade it.
If not , go ghetto, NITROUS 100 shot direct port should put you easily in 14's with No problem's, but you lose at the end.
go ALL MOTOR MADNESS ONLY safest way

get rid of the long ls tranny, get a itr or gsr to help, other wise your next step in an all motor build is of course the motor, you'll get the most gains by putting in higher comp pistons and porting the head a bit, good luck

I did spend quite a bit on my motor (IMO) and have yet to touch the bottom end (this winter), but for revving up to 8000rpm, I can't really complain about the power I'm making.
If I wanted to go REALLY fast, I'd go turbo, but I dug the all motor thing so thats what I chose. Definately not the most economic way, but its rewarding in other ways.

I think thats me? Thats my old time with my LS tranny, original clutch & flywheel & stock cat. I've yet to go with the new B16 tranny, clutch and ITR flywheel and testpipe.

you ran 14.'s with the ls tranny..? hey btw is there a gear ratio difference between the 901-91 ls tranny and the 92-93 trannys. my 93 tranny is shot well 3rd gear.. i bought a 90 tranny are they the same gearing i know the only diff between those years and the clutch /spindle

That setup with 403's untuned would net you a 15.0 With 404's you would be lower, but their idle is rough for daily driving, sometimes they stall in the hot Florida summer, etc. Get some 403's, Skunk2 cam gears, 4-2-1 header, and High flow cat or test pipe and you will be in the 14's. You will be even faster if you raise your redline but then you get to where you break stuff. Also if you raise your redline you will need crower Valvesprings so you do not float a valve.

yep teg92 I was referring to you
I don't know what my car runs, but I'm sure the headwork really opens up the top end. I'm thinking about some headwork and the 404s tuning and a small shot of nitrous.

well you're definitely wrong. i went to the track this weekend and guess what? i ran my good ole 14.8. yep and you would never guesss what i have. an all motor ls. lets see my long list of mods: intake, 2 1/4 inch custom exhaust, ACT clutch, and a PYR programmed ECU. that's a pretty long list isn't it. i never even opened up my motor for a cam swap or anything. yep that's all it takes to get 14's kids. and im just gettin started with this old ragged out ls. oh yea and did i mention it has 135000 miles on it and still runnin strong?

all motor just seems more realistic to me, i can't afford everything all at once, and i'm not looking for a 12sec time slip... it's just not that important to me... i want a nice car that can hold it's own on the street. i don't want to rip out interior or have to tune my car everyday and worry about problems with boost.
also i didnt' start this thread to yet again hear about how it can't be done or how i should boost instead... obvioulsy i realize my options. i asked what will i need for an all motor ls to run 14's.. thanks to everyone who helped me out.

i can never find a good 92 93 trans.. i hate buying from online ..
