rusted valves in a perfectly good head
a buddy of mine asked a question, and i dont know the answer.. the valves in the head are rusted slightly.. can these be replaced without a machine shop?
what part of the valves are rusty? if its rusty in the valve seat of the valve and head then it will need to be machined but if there is just a small amount of surface rust on the flat part of the valve it might be alright
you should be able to determine if the valves are still good by removing them then using a wire brush on the stem to clean them up. if there isn't any pitting then you're fine. if there is, i'd suggest getting some new valves or a new head.
ninja edit: where on the stems are the valves rusty at? in the spring area, or in the port area

if i look into the exhaust port, i can see a lil rust on them.. not much..
He wants new valves, but can he just slip them in? or do we have to have the head machined?
like, if we get the head all cleaned up nice, and there is no pitting, can i just slip new valves in it?
