which vehicle should I choose ?
Hello everyone,
Please help me. I want to buy used car. Right now, I have two options:
1) Honda Accord 1997 mileage 93000 ( low miles). The owner seems to take care of the car. When I take it to the mechanic, the mechanic found out some problem : distributor o-ring , timing cover gasket, rear main sear , oil pan, valve cover and rear main seal leaking.
2) Honda Accord 2000 mileage 122000 . I take it to the mechanic, he found out three problems : water pump, power steering and rear main seal leaking.
Which vehicle should I choose ? Please give me your opinion about it.

I would choose the first option, less miles and similiar issues.
The o-ring can be done by yourself, including the valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket.
The rear main seal is challenging and requires extensive knowledge and certain tools to get that job accomplished.
I would also find when the timing belt and water pump were replaced on the 97 accord (if you choose it)

I'd say go with the 97. Just like the cool kid said the gaskets are pretty easy to do (the oil pan take a little bit of work, but not too bad) plus low miles. Plus The 2000 accord had alot of problem like the ignition switch and tranny failure.
Keep in mind (if it hasn't already been done) that you will need to change the timing belt soon on the 97. So add that to the expenses.
I'm assuming since you didn't list that on the 2000, that it already had it done (or I hope to god it did).
Even so, I say go for the 97. As kidcool and davey said, those problems are pretty easy to deal with.

I would go for the 97 Accord but thats just me though. But go for which ever one you desire. I would still do Timing Belt and Water pump on the car; doesn't matter which one you get. Better be to be on the safe side than sorry.
I say the '97. Low miles and well kept. Also think about who owned the car. Older people tend to take better care of their rides. No redline pulls, and definitely not from every stop sign.
