drawing a blank here but did all trim levels of the 96-00 civics have the y8?

i know i can use a 92-95 eg si (z6) head gasket but if im gonna get MLS, i may as well get a 2-layer with the y8 rather than the 3-layer z6

you had a 1-layer MLS gasket?

i've only heard of 2, 3, 4, and composite.

the **** popped last nite on my way home from work. a solid stream of steam coming from just below the dizzy.

car wont turn over now which is a good thing, obviously lost ALL compression as oppossed to what happened with my other motor.

i can get a z6 hg or y8 both for $37 either one will be an improvement.

no clue what happened, got off the freeway, oil light came on (I WASNT LOW ON OIL) and then steam thru the vents and out the seems of the hood and i knew it was over! haha

my warranty doesnt cover overheating...and a blown head gasket is attributed to overheating most of the time, there isnt a way to prove otherwise.

im not spitting white smoke out of the exhaust, i had to chugging noises when the car was running...and it just turns and turns but doesnt actually fire.

plus when the car was off, it would periodically surge air up thru the rad cap hole. so it was releasing the left over compression in the motor, once it was finished doing that, it wouldnt start so im certain this is just a gasket problem.

EDIT: yea he wants something stock...so haha ok!

but seriously, im selling the sedan for $1500 WITH STEELIES tho...i've put in waaay to much time painting my fat fives multiple times and having brand new falkens on there. im gonna put em on my XB :-)

it sounds to me like you might be having a cooling system problem related to your radiator being clogged...its just a thought since you kept on having problems with your old motor and now it might be affecting your new motor...!!!

yea i have no clue, im gonna do the headgasket regardless of the radiator. and IF i need to, i'll pick up a rad this weekend at pick a part or ecology.

but i seriously just want to get this sedan out of my driveway...i've had nothing but problems recently, i dont mind the work, and its not expensive, but its the fact that it keeps happening for no apparent reason.

its not like i drive this thing hard or wrecklessly, its time to move on. once i sell this im gonna save up a little bit and probably get an AE86 or RX7. i've been wanting either of those for a while now.

well i know its the head gasket right now, as to what led to this...who knows probably radiator.

it couldnt have been an "all of a sudden" problem or else this would have happened the first day i drove it to work. remember im driving 90 miles per day.

haha i have just about that entire document printed out!

but yea im not running a thermo, good since its so cold outside. also i need to look into the rad fan cuz i dont think its working. well whatever fine, this is probably the cause but ultimately my HG is blown, so im buying the z6 one tonite.

screw the y8 i dont need a .xx milimeter worth of extra compression. anyways ill get the rad and fan this weekend.

suprisingly the MLS gaskets for the eg and ek are only $36. i could have sworn i payed more than that for an EF composite haha.

also i dont want to screw someone over. this HG should have been replaced before i even dumped in the engine. besides that, i have no leaks what so ever and absolutely nothing is wrong with my car.

im just curious about your fan situation...do you ever warm it up and wait for the automatic fans to come on after it reaches temp to verify that they work or not because i dont drive anywhere without letting mine warm up first and verifying that my fans come on...!!!

i actually havent paid attention to it since i havent had any problems. the a6 i had was caused by the leaking water pump.

this was caused probably by the radiator but im not sure. my heater wasnt working on my way home last nite and i had no clue as to why. then like i said i stopped in traffic and my rpms kept dipping down and the oil light would come on. but like i said i was full of oil.

the bad thing about last night is that it was SO cold, i couldnt tell what was steam and what was smoke! when i opened up the oil cap it looked like smoke coming out, which it obviously wasnt but the **** got frustrating after a while.

the fans are easily noticable when on since they dont turn back off...change headgasket and verify that fans work and that radiator isn't half clogged...!!!

well then mine hasnt been working! actually i think i know what led to this. i had my coolant temp switch UNPLUGGED since the swap. you know that little plug thats directly under the dizzy? just a single wire with a plastic female tip.

anyways it wasnt seated correctly so i removed it, thus having no temp gauge in the car, and removing the ability for the fan to switch on.

clogged rad or not, it will get replaced this weekend. its gone thru a lot of high heat and lack of coolant.

i think you might of answered your problems...running it without a thermostat,no fans on and might have a radiator that is partially clogged is a recipe for disaster on any motor
