Default injectors????

Today i went out and unbolted everything to get the head off completely but when i pulled the fuel rail the injectors were REALLY dirty looked like they were covered in dirt or mud or something do you guys think this may be the cause of my problems ( overheating, smoking exhaust) and not the head gasket?

Where the fuel sprays was dirty?? Or just the exposed part of the injector was dirty?? If the exterior was the only thing that was dirty, then that wouldnt make a difference. If the pindle area looked dirty, then yeah that would cause some problems.

Have you performed a Leak Down Test to determine the health of the motor?

i dont know it looked like it, i just bought the car dont know its history. it over heats and smokes mildly. i thought it was the head gasket started unbolting everything to pull out the head, then i pulled the fuel rail and the injectors were DIRRRRRRRRTTTTTYYY so i was wondering, could this be the issue or should i keep going and change the head gasket?

Pull the valve cover, no coolant/oil mixture then Id avoid pulling it, if theres coolant in the oil then pull it

most stock injectors that i have taken out, or replaced had gunk all around them. they almost look burnt? i usually just spray them with tb cleaner and use an old toothbrush to clean the gunk off of them so they seal better and look a little nicer.

LEAK DOWN TEST!!! Don't just pull **** off because you suspect. Test to determine if the head gasket is blown
