Default 1999 Accord V6 - auto trans swap

I bought a '99 Accord v6 (75K auto-trans), and after driving it around for about 4 months, it's now throwing the dreaded TCC failure code. Everyone I've talked to says that this usually means that the trans is about to take a sh**t

Questions...

I just got a quote from the dealer for $3500 to install a Honda reman (auto) trans... is it me or does that sound high? I'd hate to spend all that money for it to fail again. From what I understand, these transmissions tend to be defective, regardless of maintenance / care patterns.

I'm def looking to stick with an auto trans... would it be worth swapping an Acura auto into this thing? I heard that they're stronger / less likely to die... If so, which trans should I be looking for?
