Default 92 Accord EX, header questions

Hi everyone!

I was hoping to get some insight on what kind of header to get for my car. The more I read the more confused I get so I figured I'd just ask. My exhaust system is currently quite leaky and rusted out so I'm planning on redoing the whole thing. I already got some cat-backs in mind but now I don't know what to do for the header. I'm on a budget and am looking to spend <$175 on a header. I realize that anything I buy in that price range won't be that good but I'd like to know the least crappy option. Would the exhaust manifold from a f22a4 be a good choice? I read it was better than the one in my f22a6. Or would I be better off taking my chances on an ebay header?

Any additional ideas are welcome. Thanks!

for that price, you can get an bbp cat back and header.

OP,

The F22A4 is going to flow better than any cheap ebay tri-y header you could buy. Have you done any mods to your engine. Anything internal that would warrant a more expensive header?

Are you saying that you can buy a BBP complete exhaust with header for < $175? I can just imagine the quality & material used in the manufacturing of those products.

its an ebay brand i suppose. i have a bbp catback, and i paid 133 shipped for it. its not an apexi or anything, but in all honesty, i'm not all about the brand thing. i just wanted some sound, and my stock pipe was all rusted out. that, and i think something name brand will be quite a bit more than 175. i guess its just personal preference, and goals.

What's your overall goal for the car? Are you looking for performance or just to get your exhaust fixed?

Personally, if you want performance, I would save up as much money as you can and do it right. There are some amazing gains that can be had from the F22 with an entire exhaust upgrade. Bisimoto will get my business when I am ready for my exhaust upgrade.

As for the F22A4 header, not sure if you will be able to find one that doesn't have a rusted header downpipe.

If your goal is to just fix your exhaust leak, a Megan header off Ebay isn't a bad option.

How long have you had this setup?

I have read a few posts about how great it sounds for the price. But no one has come back with any updates as to it's longevity.

well, i guess i can't brag about how long it lasts either. lol. i've only had it for about a month now. i like it so far, when i first got it, it sounded ehh, ok i guess. but about a week after driving on a regular basis, it changed from high pitched, and raspy in the upper rpms, to a much lower tone and more agressive sounding. and, it seems to be holding its looks. my tenrai on my ef hatch after a month looked like ***. this seems to be better made.

Sorry I took so long to reply. Long term the only other upgrade I'd do is a new intake. So nothing that would warrant any need for a really good performance header. And yeah I sort of am leaning towards an ebay header cause that way I get the downpipe and flexpipe where with the exhaust manifold off the f22a4 I'd probably have to find those other parts elsewhere. So if I go the ebay route does anyone have any reputable buyers I can look at?

For the f series I say go with bisi header. They are expensive but it is the best header made for the engine. If you want to go the ebay route. I had a megan header on my F22a6 before I swapped my H23a1 over. It was a good header and it took a lot of punishment.

I had a Ractive header on my car for 4 years and it was still in working condition when I took it off. For $140 your not going to get much better. These are not stainless steel. http://www.autoaccessorysite.com/per...ve_headers.htm

Yes the ebay ones may be stainless but they are thin wall and most have poor weld quality (contaminated welds)
