91 si d16a6 hatch cooling temp issue
My car never gets anywhere near opperating temp the thermostat is new the fan does work if the car sits still it will start to raise in temp but only goes to 120 degrees if i raise the rpm at idle to 2500 i can get the car to get up to 190 but as soon as u let off and it idles goes rights back down n while driving the car doesnt go above 80degrees at best
where are you getting these temperature readings from? does your gauge cluster temp gauge work? does the heat in the car work? if the fan is cycling on and off then the engine is getting up to temp.
When the car is cold open you rad cap and start the car let it get warm and keep an eye on the liquid see what its doing if its calm and normal looking then that fine but if its boiling out or spraying or doing any thing then normal you could have a head gasket problem.. Is the oil clean drain it is there oil in the coolant..
Im getting the temps from a thermometer i put in the radiator fill neck n the fan comes on when o rev the engine at idle when it hits 191 the car well n strong the oil is hard to tell if it seems over filled from coolant bc the car also eats oil which could also b a headgasket issue because everytime i start it up it spits oil out the exauast in a decent amount n when i accel hard big smoke clouds come out the exhaust there is no oil in the coolant n from what i can tell no coolant in the oil

headgasket problem would consume coolant not oil.
the oil you're burning at startup is most likely from leaking valve seals. not to say you're rings aren't also leaking oil past them. you'd have to do a compression check and/or cylinder leakdown test to figure that one out.

ok well i compression tested the car today at work and did a leak down test cyl 134 all were at 160 and cylinder 2 was at 140 the pressure build up is constant and even. ive noticed that when i fill my overflow bottle to its mark somehow the next day its empty but the coolant in tha radiator is full it might b a slight bit lower than normal but then fills to the top quickly. i stuck a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator so i would have heat and that actualy helped but other than that my valve seals r still messed up and who knows what is going on with the coolant

Your thermostat can't be working if the temp won't go above 80-120. The thermostat should keep the coolant in the engine until the temp gets to 180-195.
