Default ITR cams/pistons

A friend of mine drives a 96 GSR 4-door. She wants either ITR cams or ITR pistons. She wants to know which would produce the best gains. Can someone help her out. Searched already.

ITR cams require either ITR valvesprings or aftermarket. They are MUCH easier to install, pistons would require ripping the whole engine out of the car. I say go with cams.

no they dont. u can drop in ITR cams w/o nothing else. only if u increase redline u will need aftermarket valvesprings or ITR v.s.
u really cant take advantage of the ITR cams with out getting more air in and using some type of vtec controller. they will drop in but only net about 5-8 hp. plus installation needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing.

i would highly recommend ITR JDM 4-1 header w/ 2.5 cat. best bang for the buck. easy and straightforward bolt on item.

would you have to raise the vtec xover?

So you wouldn't get some power gains with the pistons then? Or, do you just get more with the cams?

yes u would especially if u get higher compression pistons.
it just takes more effort, know-how, and time to do it.
cams would be easier than putting in pistons but the header would be the easiest to do.

is there a website that shows how to put in cams? I basically have all the boltons (jdm dc 4-1, aem cai, rsr cat back) and am looking to do something to my car again.. cams seem like a good next step..

.... and to answer your question about piston/ raising compression, it is a very good investment, but it has been mentioned that it is costly to have them installed. As far as gains that can be seen, general rule of thumb is for every .1 the compression is raised you you see 1 whp. If you installed JDM ITR pistons in a B18c with GSR head, you should be around 11.3 to 1 cr. Will you see 11 whp??? Every car is different but it is possible. As far as $ to hp, it may cost about $900 to buy the pistons and to have somebody install them. I have never got to dyno my car but I would like to hear from anybody who has done this upgrade and has dyno figures or input.
