Default 98 integra build help

i have a 98 teg ls. I read there are several different ways you can build your motor for power and here is what I came up with. I already have the b16 head ported and polished, since I have the head what would be better a gsr bottom or my ls bottom. Im going to boost the motor too and was hoping to get 400 hp out of this build. I want the build to be reliable while putting down that kind of power. I will sacrafice power for reliability since the car will be driven daily.

Depends how far you plan on building this motor, and who else will be involved. For a forced induction setup, at that power level, there really isn't much to be gained with either.

If you have a competent builder in mind, or help from somebody experienced, an LS block is a viable platform to build from. Just don't think this will be pulled, torn down, bored & honed, reassembled, installed, tuned, and back to daily driver duty in a timely manner.

yea i wanted to do a fresh rebuild, with new pistons and cams, cam gears, the whole 9. The only thing Im worried about is the relibility of the LSV. What did you mean when you said at that power level , there really isn't much to be gained? If I do the LSV I might as well use the gsr bottom, at least ill rev higher.

x2. SoTexDC2 makes a good point. dont expect any sort of build to be done fast if its your daily driver.

I would Vote for the LS Vtec... that is a sick setup and makes a lot of power... In fact I have a GSR head for sale that is sick... It has Skunk 2 everything and I am not looking for much out of it at all... let me know if you are interested!

If your going to boost the motor for a DD i suggest keeping it a complete ls for the reliability u want out of it. Next since you already know around the HP you want research a kit or turbo set that will get you there. Also look into the coast of everything your thinking about doing to see if it in your price range. Last thing is it will take time to do all of this so if it your DD now get all your part 1st then start on it.

I mean that, because you are going to boost this motor, it really doesn't make a difference. You can reach your goals easily with an LS or a GSR block.

If you are building a motor yourself, it does not matter which block you start with. You will be assembling everything almost exactly the same way. If you start with an LS block, you will tap the head and run an external oil line. If you start with a GSR block, you will not need to run an external oil line. That is the only difference in procedure between the two, if you are doing a complete build.

Either crank will fit in either block. From there, you select your parts for the stroke you use. LS crank needs LS length rods. GSR crank needs GSR length rods.

For 400whp: Get a block - LS or GSR, pick a crank, get forged pistons & rods for said crank, get some aftermarket valve springs and retainers, run GSR or ITR cams, and rebuild everything else to OEM spec.

It does not matter which block you use, either will be just as reliable...
